This discussion group is for people who collect and research the carte de visite photograph that was popular from about 1859 through the 1870's, and continued to be made after the 1880's, although in lesser quantities with each passing decade. The carte de visite photograph was pasted on a card about 2.5 x 4 inches (5.2 x 8.5 cm). We are interested in the history of the carte de visite, the wet plate process, CDV photographers, CDV cameras, CDV viewers, CDV albums, CDV tax stamps (U.S. Civil War), etc. CDV dealers are encouraged to post messages advising members of new catalogues or web site offerings.
