What does the future look like for green schools?
Here's a recent bit of news that is very encouraging:

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a $6.4 billion school modernization bill, The 21st Century Green High Performing Public School Facilities Act, (H.R. 2187), that would pay for energy efficiency in new school construction and school modernization projects. The measure passed overwhelmingly, 275-155 and is now with the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

The estimated state grant for California would be more than $671 million, according to the House Education and Labor Committee, whose web site also lists the estimates of the funding going to school districts. If you want to stay on top of where these funds are being allocated, and what schools intend to do with them, you can't afford to miss the Green California Schools Summit, the nation's largest green schools event, taking place in Pasadena from December 9-11, 2009.

"Sustainable Schools for Sustainable Education"

The Los Angeles Unified School District (“District”) will be soliciting proposals for firms to provide solar site survey services to assess potential sites/locations for Solar Photovoltaic Systems (“PV Systems”) in support of the District’s energy conservation program pursuant to California Government Code section § 4217.

The District estimates one hundred twenty (120) potential sites and intends to award task order contracts to approximately four (4) firms. It is anticipated that each selected firm will conduct between twenty (20) to thirty (30) site surveys. The Request for Proposals for these services is expected to be released on or before the second week of June. Interested firms may register at the District website: http://www.laschools.org/contractor/psc/ to obtain details and automatic electronic notification when the RFP is posted.
