The e-100 [from my experience] needs a working battery to power up with the
AC power supply even though this seems redundant. You can't tell if the
unit is 'dead' without a battery that works regardless of the use of the AC
power. This is unlike some laptops that will work on AC power with no
battery installed.

Can you power the unit with just the Ac or do you need
the battery in the unit at the same time?
