specifically looking for a three-tiered one but i'm not limiting my
search to that specific type.

DGNLSTYLE.SHX is a compiled shape file generated by Microstation on export to DWG format file. The file contains shape definitions for the used complex linetypes. Its contents is individual and therefore you have to get this file from the supplier of the particular exported DWG file (it is stored in the fonts folder).

Another simple means to get a cow or any other item in a drawing is to use an image. Go to google, search for the item you are looking for, you can then image in the image, and trace it, or even go into photoshop (google recently releasesed a simmilar program for free called picasa2) and trim it out then use the image, depending on the look you are going for.

I have bought some software from a retired surveyor and there were no
manuals with it. I am a licensed surveyor but I have worked in
construction for 30 years and do not survey too often. I have always
used a simple program called SMI Plot which I purchased with my data
collector.
I have been playing with the land desktop trying to get myself
familiar and comfortable with it.
I have had no trouble viewing cad site files from Civil designers at
my work and creating construction stakeout reports for layout.
The problem is when I try to start a new drawing I am totally lost as
how to set up templates prototypes scales etc. and save them for
future use. For example recently I was doing a loan survey and I
tryed to set my drawing scale to 1-40 and plot it to a 11x17.
When I added points and dymanic labels to my drawing the annotations
were huge. In my old program I could select the text and choose to
edit all text to change all.
Any help anyone could give me would be appreciated. I may be too old
to learn new tricks !!!!

As you may have noticed, CBEN.NET is offline.
This has been an intermittent, but ongoing problem for some time now.
However we are happy to announce that CBEN.NET has secured a new
high-speed dedicated server to host CBEN.
In the coming days we will start moving the entire site.
Will try to minimize any disruptions to our service.
Regards
CBEN.NET
PD:
CBEN back-end news:
Our current host has imposed a series of bandwidth limitations that
has forced us to make the change. Apparently, CBEN.NET generates so
much traffic that our host can not keep up. We have been politely
advised to find a new host, as our traffic was affecting everyone.
Thanks for your understanding. Will keep you posted.
We are glad to announce that CBEN.NET is now 100% Firefox ready.
Firefox is a new browser that arguably competes and surpasses MS
Explorer and Netscape.
If you are bored with MS Explorer, give Firefox a try.
