Hi George,
Have you taken an assessment of what tools
you have as data sources already?
What z/OS release are you running?
Do you have IBM RMF or BMC CMF?
Do you have an MVS Monitor of any sort
(TMONMVS, SYSVIEW, OMEGAMON, MAINVIEW)?
You can post process SMF type 30 data
which is generated by native z/OS but my first recommendation is to do that
with MXG/SAS.
To me your consideration about “all
kinds of money” is not realistic if you value your time.
MXG is perhaps the best value of any
software sold today!
You only need SAS/PC on one decent x86
server to do all the reporting with MXG for a good sized set of z/OS images.
Take stock of what you have first. RYO
in assembler from SMF 30 is not something most folks would want to maintain for
a production system.
The reality is CPU by job is just one
small facet of performance data you normally need and many of the other pieces
of information you need are not available in native z/OS without RMF.
Are we talking about limited use sandbox system
or commercial system(s) here?
Best
