Thanks for the heads up. I had just about forgotten that there was a sky up
there. I hauled out the 20X80 binocs and a photo tripod and availed myself of
some clusters in Cass., Pers., and Auriga.

I got my CGEM out last Saturday night and got a few shots with my D90 mounted to the CGEM. I was just playing around with the Pleiades and Hyades/Aldebaren. See attached. They are a stack of 5x15 sec each.

Since the weather looks a little better Saturday evening, and since the ground is so soggy, we are making the call to MOVE the event to Saturday night.

Time:   6:00 PM, Saturday the 14th

Where:   1148 Cleveland Avenue (Hwy 226), 2 miles North of Grover.   Turn onto “Herndon Springs Lane” gravel driveway, and drive to the 2nd house (bear right at the first house through an open gate).

Bring:  Lawn/Camping Chairs, Warm Clothes, OLD Shoes.  It may be muddy!     Flashlights with red lenses will be allowed near the telescopes.  No white lights.

Optional:  If you can bring either a Desert or a Beverage (say a 2 liter drink), please email me at dherndon@...  Pack 92 is picking up the tab for the other food.

We are serving Hot Dogs with Chili, Slaw, Onions, Ketchup, Mustard, Mayo and chips.

Rough Agenda:

6:00 Arrival and Gathering Activities for the kids

6:45 Eat and mingle around the campfire.

7:15 Astronomy Lesson around the campfire.  We will be earning the Astronomy Belt Loop.

7:45 – Until -- Rotate everyone through the Telescope stations where you will see Jupiter and it’s moons, The Andromeda Galaxy (m31), The Hercules Globular Cluster (m13), and more! Otherwise, hangout by the camp fire.

Unfortunately, marshmallow roasting is frowned upon by the Boys Scouts Organization due to fire/burn hazards.

Please email me at dherndon@... or call if you can NOT make it Saturday night but had signed up for Friday so we can get an accurate count. (or if you want to join us now but didn’t sign up for Friday).

We’re official now…..moving to Saturday.   Call me Sat if you have any questions.

Let’s hope the weather’s good so we can get some imaging done after the kiddies leave ;-)

Dave.

Subject: IMPORTANT: Campfire and Astronomy Night is moving to SATURDAY !!!

You bet, had already planned on bringing him. He is in the Cub Scouts and this will probably let him get his astronomy beads!

Supposed to be in the 70s and sunny on Sat. May dry the field up pretty good. It does look like Saturday night should be clear.

The forecast seems to fluctuate by the hour……now shows partly cloudy on Friday night, “mostly clear” on Saturday.

We weren’t going to make the call until tomorrow late anyway……but if I had to make the call now, we’d probably go with Saturday night.    The field is going to be super-soggy even then…..moreso on Friday though.

Stay tuned!

Dave.
