Does anyone still use this site? I have looked at the cfas-fl site and it
referred to this site for updates on observing dates and places but there is
nothing posted after 2005.
Hey all,
I noticed that the new construction on I4 in Deltona is replacing the
bad highway lights with full cutoff versions. I think it's going to
look nice when it's done.

Hello All,
Well the nightwalk was a success. I did a presentation much like the
one I presented at the last CFAS meeting and it turned out great.
Hopefully in the next months SCC will be working on changing the
lighting. My next goal is to schedule a meeting with the President
and talking with her for me to present at the next board meeting about
the matters over at the Planetarium and on lighting. I am focusing
most of my efforts on SCC because thats the place I work and also if I
can get SCC to work on their lighting, Lake Mary and Sanford might
look at the success of the college and think about putting together
some lighting laws.

Hi Everyone,
Well tonight I went out to SCC to do some research on the lighting
over there. They have a night walk scheduled for March 28th where Ill
be presenting safety and lighting. If anyone would like to come out
and join the walk and to support better lighting around campus, please
fee free to come along. I dont have an exact time yet for the walk
but it should be around 7 or 8 that night. Let me know. Also, if
anyone is talking with their home owners association about lighting in
their neighborhood, let me know and Ill give you some information on
good lighting. I am also working on a website called Dark Horizons so
work is getting done on the DSAC front. However, I really need help
from all you guys out there. Please come to the next CFAS meeting and
Ill be talking about DSAC and what is expected from us in the coming
months.
Derek
Derek,
I am meeting with the physics department today to
discuss the fate of the robinson observatory and other
astronomy program topics. I will bring up lighting
concerns and see where it goes. I know Dr. Britt is
going to make that one of his top list iteams for the
semester. I will get back to you. I will try to find
out who we need to go talk to about lighting

Hello All!
Hope you had a restful holiday. Well a new year has come upon us and
I feel ready to start working on making central florida and light
pollution free area (or hope to try to). First and foremost, I would
like to start working on a community outreach program where at CFAS
events, SCC events, and OSC events, we can help educate people in the
community about the affect light pollution has in our area. I want to
start working on a light fixture display board and a few of you are
interested in this project. If you are...please let me know when you
will be avalible to work on this.
Thanks
Paul,
When can we meet up to talk with admin about our lighting concern?
Also, I spoke with Laurent and we want to work with the stadium
construction committee because we have found some great full cut off
stadium lighting. Let me know.
Derek
We need to start talking with some people about the new stadium over
at UCF and about the lighting. I would like to maybe get together and
discuss how we could ask UCF to regulate the light output of the
stadium so it doesnt interfere with our observational sessions over at
the Robinson. Next spring. I really want to start working on getting
lighting over at UCF and SCC better for both sites. We are thinking
about potentially putting a observatory at SCC so its good to work on
that as well.
You and me both man. Well, if you can give me contacts to the
professors over there about it as well as the contacts over at the
physical plant, that would be awesome!
Derek
Derek,
I am super busy right now. I brought it up with the
professors and they are going to look into it some. I
wont be able to really deal much with this until the
spring.

Paul,
I need to find out when you want us to talk with the people over at
UCF because I need Alan to send the light meter out to get calibrated
and he will be leaving soon for Africa.
Derek
Paul,
I want to take some light measurements sometime, not just for the
robinson, but for the whole campus. I think if we try, we could talk
with UCF on reducing their light all over campus. Let me know when
you would like me to come down there to take measurements.
Derek
Definately. I will work on it next week. My schedule is pretty full
right now.

Derek,
One good place to start might be physical plant. they run all
maintenance issues on campus. I will ask around and see who to contact
higher up in the administration about this. we need to get in touch
with someone high up and cause a commotion
Paul
Paul joined this group, so it should go to his email or he should
check the DSAC group to check up on any new replies.

I think a good place to do some DSAC work would be at UCF. There is a
huge open light right next to the observatory that shines directly
into the dome. The rest of the campus is covered in non-cutoff lights.
Forcing UCF to make some changes to their lighting would improve
viewing at the Robinson Observatory ten fold.
