The massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit Indonesia and other Indian Ocean countries on 26 December and the subsequent earthquake of 28 March left millions of people dead and missing, with the province of Aceh in Indonesia being the hardest hit. CGIAR Centers in the region reacted immediately to help the distressed people and several Centers are involved in the long term reconstruction and rehabilitation effort.
This special mailing-list based forum was developed as part of the CGIAR initiatives,to serve as a common platform for CGIAR information on relevant research and development information on restoring livelihoods and on integrated natural resources management in areas directly and indirectly affected by the tsunami and earthquake disasters, particularly in Indonesia .
