51 Dark fantasy girls - Photoshop manipulation

Posted: 24 Nov 2008 09:14 AM PST

Dark Photoshop manipulations are a trend these days. This is the reason why I made this dark gallery with 51 pics of fantasy girls. Black, dark, gothic, morbid call it however you want. That doesn’t matter. What matters is the love for these dark pictures created with the beautiful art of manipulation. Please appreciate the work of the designers who made these using their specific manipulation techniques. As a combo I put in this article a dark elf girl from Lineage 2 made by Viktoria Tseluyko. Don’t forget to check out the article on dark wallpapers where you can find over 70 of them.

WALL-E Concept Art And BURN-E Short Film

Posted: 25 Nov 2008 09:33 AM PST

Q: WALL-E stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifter, Earth class. What does BURN-E stand for?

A.M.: BURN•E stands for: Basic Utility Repair Nano Engineer. I have since heard from some people that it actually be BURN•A because the “E” in WALL•E stands for “Earth-Class” and the “A” would be the appropriate “Axiom-Class”. Now I could argue that maybe BURN•E was a robot on earth that then was installed on the Axiom, but A: I would be lying and B: What is the point? If that is the biggest problem you have with the film, then I have done my job. Now put yourself in my shoes- you have to name this robot. The name BURN-E is funny and breaks the continuity of the film or BURN•A which is more accurate to the feature and is not funny at all. Which would you choose? I thought so. I do love that geeks pick up on this and I am happy to be creating this controversy. I’d probably do the same thing were I not involved.

Send Email Send Email

Arun Verma Design Studio [ http://www.arunverma.com  ] is a one-stop-creativity-hotshop operating out of a basement office in Noida (Delhi NCR). We provide our clients in India, Europe and the USA with a host of creative services ranging from logo designs to setup and maintenance of ecommerce engines. And while doing this, we also design brochures, menus, websites, film sets, exhibition stalls, shoes, virals, microsites, furniture, bags, jewelry, curate art shows, make films - in a nutshell almost everything that interests us and comes our way.
We follow what we call the `film-production-model' for design and development where depending on the requirements of a project, we pick up the best possible talent available (mostly from within the Creativegarh  community) and work together till the logical conclusion of the project. And needless to say, if we bond and build a good rapport with a professional, we ensure that we work together, more often. In the process, we have built a very close-knit group of freelancers / professionals who are accessible to each other round the clock / when clients strike.
While we have proven to our clients many times over that our `film-production-model' works best, we also have an inhouse team that manages all projects and helps run the day to day development for existing clients. Even the inhouse team works on a very interesting retainership model.

For this inhouse team, we need the following creative professionals.
1. Visualiser / Graphic Designer (Print); 2-3 years of experience; 2 openings
We are looking for someone who has a flair for great ideas, thinks out of the box and outthinks himself / herself. If you've been born and brought up amidst ideas in an advertising agency environment and have about 2-3 years of experience, you are the one we're looking for.
You should be a quick thinker, passionate about life and the environment around you and should be able to translate all this into excellent and relevant design solutions for clients across varied domains - from hospitality to technology, from e-recruitment to entertainment.
You should be well-versed with most design softwares preferably Photoshop, Illustrator and / or Corel Draw

As for the remuneration, you'll get what you deserve and more.

2. Visualiser / Graphic Designer / Flash Designer (Web); 2-3 years of experience; 1 opening
You should also have a flair for great ideas and should be able to think out of the box. You should have a knack for translating client requirements into unexpected yet relevant web based design solutions. You should also be able to translate good designs into workable solutions using languages, codes and whatever it takes it make it happen. If you have worked in an 'ideas' company and have about 2-3 years of experience, you are the one we're looking for.
You should be well-versed with Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash.

As for the remuneration, you'll also get what you deserve and more.

3. Illustrator; 2-3 years of experience (1 opening)
You need to be a multi-tasker to the core. You should be able to produce mindblowing illustrations without looking at illustration references. You should be familiar with various illustration styles and should have had some experience working on illustrations for childrens books or magazines.
You should be a quick thinker and well versed with all illustration softwares.
As for the monies, if you're good, you'll get what you ask for.

4. PHP Developers / Programmers; 1-2 years of experience (2 openings)
You should be the best at web application development using PHP4/5 and debugging of pre-developed PHP applications.  You should be strong in PHP, MYSQL and should have atleast one year of experience in customisation of opensource CMSs like Joomla , Mambo and Drupal. Experience in XML, SOAP, Web Services, AJAX will be a strong plus.
Monies is not an issue if you are good and have what it takes.

~~~~~
Having said this, we'd like to reiterate that you needn't know everything about design but should be willing to learn and learn more and put that learning into practise.
What we are really interested in is a 'solution' attitude coupled with great skills.
Also, deadlines and quality are sacrosanct for us. So, we'd like you tofollow that as well.
Now, what can you expect from us? / Why should you work for us?
a. We love what we do. We work 18 hours a day, yet we have a life.
b. We work for international and Indian clients. We have exclusive tie-ups with VC companies and design houses in the US.
c. We do every possible design work.
d. We are a small team. So, we have no hang-ups about life. We all are coffee-boys and CEOs rolled into one.
e. When we work late nights, we take bread-omlette-maggi-and-tea-breaks at a roadside stall. So many times, we work late nights, just to have omlettes.
f. We try to take weekends off.
g. Our clients love us. Most of our clients become friends. Most of our friends become clients.
h. We work with young self motivated individuals who see themselves as successful entrepreneurs in the next 5 years.
i. We don't go out and pitch for business. For us, the best business we get is one that comes from references. And repeat business.
j. We have an interesting payment model. What you earn depends on your value to the company. It's a simple retainership + bonus + project percentage formula.
i. We're always on your side. We'll even fight for you.
Interested? Know someone who would be. Call me NOW on 9811214413 or 9810200602. Or send me your resume and portfolio at arun @ arunverma . com
Remember, we work 18 hours so most probably we're up right now.
Cheers
Arun
Thanks.
Animation Tips & Tricks - What Steps Do You Go Through to Get into Your Characters Mind?
Posted: 26 Nov 2008 08:44 AM PST
To really get into a characters head and really feel what they feel I ask myself a lot of questions. I’ve broken it down to my own personal steps.
Step 1: Draw from your own experiences
• When have you been in a similar situation?
• How did you feel?
• How did you carry yourself?
• How did you want others to perceive you?
• What were you doing?
• How were the people around you acting?
• What got you into that situation?
• What were you thinking vs. what you were saying?
• What environment were you in and how did that affect you? Example: A fight with a girlfriend in your living room will be different than at the library.
Adobe Photoshop is probably one of the most popular graphic editing program used extensively. There is one simple reason for that. Photoshop is easy to learn and offer a variety of advanced tools to optimize and emphasize some impressive results.
That’s why many designers use it to compliment other programs like Flash, Illustrator, Cinema 4D and After Effects. But wait it doesn’t stop here, there is more! If you need to design an impressive layout, you will sure use Photoshop to do the design and slice it into XHTML later.
What’s the Exact Difference Between Overlap and Follow-through?
Posted: 29 Nov 2008 10:01 AM PST
This is something that I was confused about for a long time, actually, and I used to use these terms interchangeably. However, this question really got me rethinking it, and I decided to pick the brain of some great animators at work about it to see what they thought. Kevin Martel, one of our senior animators, had some great points and set me straight on this stuff:
Follow-through is basically the “end” of the action after the main force of the action has been exerted. For example, if you slammed a sledgehammer against a wall, the rest of your body is going to continue moving for a few frames after the hammer is stopped, right? Your spine is going to go through some “successive breaking of joints” and kind of whip forward, pulling your head along with it last. The last thing that will happen in that chain of events is the head will move forward and probably rotate the chin down towards the chest. This motion would be called “follow-through.”
Take care of your laptop battery and ensure that it will be ready to work properly when you need it most. Some general tips for laptop care include: avoid extreme temperatures, don’t leave a laptop outside in cold weather or leave it in a hot car. Cold batteries can’t create very much power and hot batteries will discharge very quickly. Use electrical power when available to keep battery charged. Don’t let your laptop go for long periods of time without using the battery.
Free on-line rendering service by University of Westminster
Posted: 30 Nov 2008 10:23 PM PST
This portal provides access to a Grid-based on-line rendering service. To learn more about this application please visit our wiki.
What is the rendering challenge?
Rendering images is a crucial step when designing computer animation. In the case of 3D graphics, rendering is a highly computationally demanding process. A rendering task can run for hours or days on a personal computer.
What does the Rendering Portal provide?
The Rendering Portal provides access to a free on-line rendering service that utilises the power of computing clusters including hundreds of processors to run your rendering task faster. You can render an animation that was created with the Blender 3D animation program by providing a .blend file as input. The portal returns the rendered frames and also a video file as an output.
Who can use this service?
The Rendering Portal can be used by anyone. However, please note that this portal serves demonstration purposes only. Therefore we limited the number and complexity of the rendering tasks you can run. If you would like to use the portal or the underlying technology for commercial or research purposes and for more complex tasks then please contact the developer team at rendering@....
How can I get an account?
Video Tutorial - Google Desktop
Google is always known for its innovative new ideas and powerful but simple designs. In this tutorial we will talk about one of the coolest application called. Google Desktop.
Google Desktop makes searching your computer as easy as searching the web with Google. It’s a desktop
search application that provides full text search over your email, files, music, photos, chats, Gmail, web pages that you’ve viewed, and more. By making your computer searchable, Desktop puts your information easily within your reach and frees you from having to manually organize your files, emails and bookmarks.
Google Desktop doesn’t just help you search your computer; it also helps you gather new information from the web and stay organized with gadgets and sidebar. Google Gadgets can be placed anywhere on your desktop to show you new email, weather, photos, personalized news, and more. Sidebar is a vertical bar on your desktop that helps you keep your gadgets organized.
Making of big and little life
Posted: 02 Dec 2008 05:40 AM PST
big_n_little.jpg
My work started from a developing idea — what can explain relationships between humans, and what can explain the expression of a being human. The main idea is not an invention, but it’s simple and clearly represents human nature, and only human nature. Only humans can put an incredible amount of time and resources into creating civilizations and after that - destroy everything. The funny thing is, we never stop this process. We have been repeating this cycle for a more than 5000 years, so why not imagine this process still going on today?.
This idea is very similar to a statue in Berlin “Soviet soldier holding a little German girl in his hands”, so I just want to represent something like this, but not so tragic and monumental.
Voice-O-Matic (Maya Edition)
Posted: 07 Dec 2008 04:40 AM PST
Need to make your characters talk but don’t want to spend days or weeks doing it? You have come to the right place. Voice-O-Matic (Maya Edition) is a powerful, easy-to-use plug-in which automates the lip synchronization process for your animated CG characters directly in Autodesk Maya. Simply feed a recorded audio file to Voice‑O‑Matic and it will automatically generate timing and lip position data for your characters. Flexible is the one word which best describes Voice-O-Matic. No matter which type of character setup you wish to use : from shapes to complex bones-based rigs, and no matter the language for which you wish to create lip synchronization, Voice-O-Matic delivers.
Interested in trimming hours of work off your next talking character production? Voice-O-Matic analyses the phonemes within an audio file and automatically creates standard keyframes, allowing animators to quickly tweak results. You will be amazed at how easy it is to use. Voice-O-Matic (Maya Edition) is the best way to speed up the lip synchronization process for your CG characters in Autodesk Maya!
Flash CS4 & ASND - Audio Workflow and Tips
Posted: 07 Dec 2008 04:35 AM PST
Hello, my friends. With the introduction of ASND in CS4, I’ve been getting lots of questions as to ‘best practices’ for working with this round-trip audio format.
If you’re not familiar with ASND, it’s stands for ‘Adobe Sound Document’. Essentially, an ASND file is a stereo audio file that you can use in Premiere Pro CS4, After Effects CS4 or Flash CS4, and using the standard Adobe Edit Original, you can launch Soundbooth CS4 from the ASND file, and make changes to not only the stereo audio, but an entire ‘multitrack environment’ (assuming you’ve got multitrack audio in there from the start) as well as the ability to recall snapshots of your work, recall dynamically-linked AE or Premiere comps/sequences, and even reference video/animation exports from Flash.
Just like the previous post, these textures were created using public domain images that were taken in the mid 19th century using the Daguerreotype method. I simply removed the subject matter from the images in Photoshop to leave only the textures of the old film. Hope you like ?em!
