Faheem,
A modified HF process for alkylation has been developed by Texaco
(patent from 1990s, Allied-Signal).
The HF is partly complexed with a polymer, so it does not have as high
pressure and is less likely to form
aerosol in case of release. The octane number is also higher than from
the regular HF process.
