I suspect Rich will be along for i.d. but I am also interested in the
star like plant in the photo. I suspect it could be a liverwort but

... I think you mean Liverwort, no? Spider wort is a tall flowering plant. It resembles the PIXIE-CUP LICHEN (Cladonia chlorophaea) but is different enough...
