Patrick,

Is there any particular reason you are selling this software?  I assume it is
an original full package program, not a copied version.  Does it use a dongle
key or is it a cd version?  How long have you had it?  Do you have all the
books and other documents that it came with?

What price are you asking?

I don't mean to be a stick in the mud but in order to have a "legal" copy of
Version 10 one would have to be no longer intending to use such a license (if
you have X1 and or X2 it is illegal to sell V10 and keep your X1 or X2; I have
versions 4-X2 and they are covered under a single license that I have for all)

Hi All

I have a problem wall that doesn't show in 3D.

It is an upstairs room which is partially over a verandah below.

In 3D the windows show but not the wall. The room is selectable so the walls
close ok.

I have tried creating a room below with in visible walls but it still
doesn't show.

Can anybody suggest a fix or work around?

Many thanks in advance for any help

Hi All

I have discovered the problem - just a DOE error!

DOE = Dumb Operator Error.

I had the verandah roof running beneath the upstairs room.

Deleted the section of roof and all good

Must be passed my bed time or a holiday overdue.

Hi John,

Good Morning Everybody!!!

My latest silly question:

What's the difference between a "vaulted ceiling" and a "cathedral
ceiling"? Is it only a terminology difference or is there an actual technical
difference? Usually in my plans that have a living/kitchen combo area I will
call out the ceiling as "vaulted to collar ties".

Every once in a while I'll have a client ask me what the difference is
between the two and in my mind it seems like it's a term, but I'm only drawing
small houses so maybe there is a difference?

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

Linda,

A cathedral ceiling (under "normal" circumstances) has a
structural ridge beam that spans from one end to the other -
either as a single span or as a multiple span over columns
and the rafters actually become floor joists tranfering
their imposed loads to the ridge and to the eave plate. The
structural ridge MUST be supported continuously down to the
foundation. If trusses are being used then there is no
structural ridge but (obviously) the pitch of the ceiling
will be substantially less than that of the roof. Trusses
will not work when the roof pitch is so low that a
structural truss cannot be created. A vaulted ceiling is
just what you have been doing - it is a raised (or lowered
depending on the design) section(s) of the ceiling and the
roof is basically conventionally framed.

Linda,

It may vary by locale, but in Ohio, a "Cathedral" ceiling is always sloped.
and nearly always in both directions (as opposed to a mono-vault that is
sloped only in one direction.)

A "Vaulted" ceiling, simply means that at least a portion is raised up.
Both "Pan" ceilings and "Tray" ceilings could be considered a type of
vaulted ceiling, but not a type of cathedral.

In the broadest sense, a Cathedral Ceiling is a subset of the Vaulted
Ceiling.

Hi Linda

Around these parts, Cape Cod MA, we refer to a sloped ceiling that runs all
the way up to the ridge as "cathedral"

When the slope stops a the collar ties,,,, chapel or vaulted ceiling is
normally used.

I'm sure you know this but for the benefit of others,,,, the "Ceiling Break
Lines" layer shows the transition point between the sloped ceiling and the
flat. I normally draw over these using my "ceiling line" layer and then turn
Chiefs off. Chief more often draws them in places I prefer not to have them.

Dan,

I really can't agree with your statement that a cathedral
ceiling is a subset of a vaulted ceiling. They are two
distinct and separate structural systems.

Ted,

Never asked you to agree with me, just simply stated what the perception of
the nomenclature is here. The term "Vaulted" means there is something
happening in this ceiling. nothing more, nothing less. the term "Cathedral"
means that it is pitched all the way to the ridge.

Subject: [chief-users] vaulted versus cathedral

Good Morning Everybody!!!

My latest silly question:

What's the difference between a "vaulted ceiling" and a
"cathedral
ceiling"? Is it only a terminology difference or is there an
actual
technical
difference? Usually in my plans that have a living/kitchen
combo area I will

call out the ceiling as "vaulted to collar ties".

Every once in a while I'll have a client ask me what the
difference is
between the two and in my mind it seems like it's a term,
but I'm only
drawing
small houses so maybe there is a difference?

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks everybody for your response! I have drawn a couple houses with tray
ceilings but not any true cathedral like you guys have described. I'm glad
to know that I am using the proper terminology when calling out my ceiling
framing. Now I can tell my clients when they ask that there is a difference
but their ceiling will be vaulted :-).

Thanks again!

Linda,

It may vary by locale, but in Ohio, a "Cathedral" ceiling is
always sloped.
and nearly always in both directions (as opposed to a
mono-vault that is
sloped only in one direction.)

A "Vaulted" ceiling, simply means that at least a portion is
raised up.
Both "Pan" ceilings and "Tray" ceilings could be considered
a type of
vaulted ceiling, but not a type of cathedral.

In the broadest sense, a Cathedral Ceiling is a subset of
the Vaulted
Ceiling.

It is my understanding that it is although it may be a matter of
semantics, although I generally refer to a single sloped ceiling (like on the
bottom
side of a shed roof) as a 'vaulted' ceiling and a double or multiple
pitched ceiling as 'cathedral' ceiling. This terminology probably differs from
region to region.

Hi Folks
My HP cp1700 is on it's last leg. Over the years I've gone thru the 1220 and now
the 1700. I'm looking at a Cannon,, PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II and wondering if any
of you might have experience with this machine or would care to make suggestions
on a machine to buy.

Ray,

Can't comment on the Cannon, but steer way clear of the HP 9600! What a
piece of junk! Has not worked right straight out of the box, when I called
the support line they said that my 8' long printer cord was to blame and
that all my problems would be resolved if I ran out a bought a 6' cord!
(Whew! Glad I got that off my chest! I never realized the latent
frustration that created!... Thanks for allowing me to vent).

BTW anybody want to buy a slightly used HP 9600? (humor)

Dan,

I can trade you for a 25' footer that has been on my 1120C
for years (and works very well)!

Awhile back I had an Epsom printer that was apparently
engineered by the same person that engineered your 9600 and
I was told that my problems with it was the cable!
(Bu%%$###T!!).

I'm a little surprised at HP - I've used their products
(printing) for a long time and their plotters anyway have
never failed me.

I would like to replace the 1120C but haven't found a small
printer like it that will take 13"x19" paper and can still
do letters, envelopes, etc. (and for under $300.00). Any
suggestions, recommendations??

You're in luck Ray, one old timer to another, so to speak?
Colloquialisms'
Billy; campfire coffee pot; lid, no spout.
Billy on the boil; boil the water for black tea and sugar. (Make a fresh pot
of coffee)
Morton May Bug. A small spanner crab about the size of your palm caught
mainly in our northern sub-tropical waters; named after Morton Bay, the
expanse of water to the east of Brisbane City and Stradbroke Island, south
East Queensland. Okay everyone, altogether now; see if you can crash Google
Earth.
Next time we will try it your way Ray, whole goat on a spit roast, real
Aussie beer XXX and deep water ocean crayfish (Large Maine rock lobster)
sautéed in butter with crushed garlic and herbs. Remember the TV add, "Come
on down and put a shrimp on the barby"? Down here they are called prawns,
all types including tiger prawns as long as your hand, cooked on a wood fire
hotplate or open grill. Gumbo special, enough said?
Thanks guys now back to work; you lot that is, not me.

Well described Erik but the god dam Yanks will still be nun the wiser most
dont even know where gods paradise (Australia) is and they are still in the
dark ages using feet & inches they dont know how simple it is using metric
eg 15 metres = 15000mm = 49' - 2 & 9/16" (if my conversion is correct)
divided by say 3 in metric is so easy is 5000mm = 1 calculation but in
imperial I ended up having to do 8 calculations to arrive at 16'- 4 & 7/8"
(did I do something wrong) stuff that give me metric any time.

Thats going to start a debate Lol
