What I have is a 7493 configured to reset when the count
reaches 12 or when outputs D and C go high. At other times, I want
the 7493 to reset when the count reaches 10 or when outputs D and B go
high. For that, I can directly connect D to one reset and the other
reset could go to a double-pole, single-throw switch with the other
two terminals of the switch going to B and C. I wanted the switch,
however, to be made of digital logic so I only need ground a line to
change from B--Reset to C--reset.

Hi Martin,

Fairly spoken: your expanation is not very clear to me. Is it, you
want to connect one of the resets of the 7493 via a CMOS switch to
one of the outputs of the 7493? In that case my imediate reaction is:
why not via an and-gate? It are digital signals, so digital circuit
suit well.
And it seems to me that you are creating a hazard in this way for the
resets are level inputs. At the moment the output goes high (or low,
whatever is applicable) the reset will activate, but when to flip-
flop belonging to the output signal is resetting faster than the
other flip-flops, it is not sure the other flip-flops will also
reset.

As for the CMOS switches, I agree with Declans remark obout other
types. Be aware that the 4016 was an earley design of CMOS switch and
later types are better in general. Depending from what you want see
p.e. 4066 and 4316. The latter has an analog level around 0V, The
4016 and 4066 around halve the supply voltage. Between manufacturers
there are differences in Rdson for the same type of circuit.

The KSY10 and some others are obsolete, they are
not made anymore. I do not think there is a replacement
part for it. There are some other parts nowadays.

A good place to start is, to rip some old hard drives or floppy drives apart,
there you find as part of the servo control at least 3 hall bridges.

Good luck

Hi list,

I'm looking for basic information of the MC6843 floppy controller chip. An
extensive google search only gave the one answer that I already had: It's a
floppy controller chip by Motorola. I also found out that Hitachi made it's
own version of it, the 46503.

I'd like to know if the chip is another derivate of the all-time popular
NEC765, of which the core is used until today, or if it can do special
things with the disk. In other words: What type of encoding did it use
(mfm, fm, gcr), sector sizes, bitrates, checksumming and stuff.

Pinout and programming of the chip are NOT of interest. I'm more interested
in the way it records data, so I can write a tool that recovers the data
with today's equipment.

Thanks for any help,

thanks for the suggestions, Tony.

the sensor is not bad - I have to bring it to a different location w/o
destroying the original board. It's from a Yamaha musical instrument
where it's used to measure distance. So it's not just a Hall switch
where I could replace it with any other Hall Sensor, but something with
a distinct response curve I suppose, so it'd be cool to have the exact
same chip.

Don't ignore the 4051-3 cmos switches, and the 4066. Many of these may
be available as 74hc4xxx

On a simpler note, there is also things like the 4019(?) which offers
and/or function; there is also a tristateable version (40157? he offers,
trying to think back to 1981).

These may provide the function you require. I dont think 4xxx cmos is
scared off at 2.4 Mhz. I think you can get 5Mhz easily enough, and 10Mhz
has been seen, although you are departing from reality up there
because of the 100ns propagation time. The current is also up.

I need to connect one of the reset lines on a 7493 to one or
another of two outputs on that counter. Are there any TTL or
TTL compatible chips that resemble the CD4016 in that each switch on
the chip has an input, output and tristate line to turn the switch
completely off?

I thought of using a CD4016 for this purpose but I like to
save those for analog switching and I am not sure it would even work
properly at 2.4 MHZ which is the clock frequency in the circuit.

In this particular case, I need non-inverting outputs. If
there is such a device, is there also an inverting version of the same
thing?

If you are looking for a replacement, you are better off ripping a sensor from an old VCR. Maybe floppy drives.

Hi there
pls specify the Mother Board type when you describe Mother Board of asystem, eg 810 etc. since each generation has different sets of connectors and sockets, once ur exact need s are identified we can even send you mother boards that you can use to extract whatever else you need over and above connectors..

Hello everybody,

I am designing  pcb that has to bear all the connectors that a mainboard bears (stucked PS/2 or two singles,  T-type LPT connector that "contains" the two Com connectors,  GAME Port connector that "contains" the three audio connectors  and ofcourse the atx-power Molex mini-fit jr. connector).
Does any body knows where can i buy these connectors ? Any information (e-mail, fax, telephone, address of the provider) would be appreciated.

Yes, try something like:

http://www.asiansources.com/

But you can probably only get those things
affordably in serious amounts from Asia.

You could also contact your local AMP man.

'Our AMP man' of years back claimed that AMP
either made any connector and better than
the others or that they had a good reason not
to produce it because it wasn't based on sound
technological principles.

The only difference between a RS flip-flop and a JK flip-flop is that
R=1=S is forbidden, but J=1=K just let toggle the flip-flop every
clockpuls. The necessary connections with the outputs are made
internaly by the designer.

If you want not to count clockpulses, but events and you have a clock
signal, connect both J and K to the event signal. If you don't have a
clock, connect J and K to 1 (logic High) and connect the event signal
to the clock input.

All these with the assumption that logic 1 = High voltage level.

Succes, Harry

I have the pin-out chart for a 7473 JK flipflop and know that
at least one configuration is such that for every pulse on the Clock
the Q and ^Q outputs reverse state. What do you do with the J and K
inputs in relation to the outputs to get this configuration?

I had carefully written down the pin-out chart and failed to
write down the configuration that causes it to act as a one-stage
counter.

I am building a chopper modulator and the complimentary
outputs are just what I need to drive the CD4016 control lines.

Many thanks and I'll make sure it gets written down this time.

You'll have to import them, that's what I had to do for the C-One board. See

www.c64upgra.de/c-one

for details and pictures. It took me months to find out that there's no
reasonable supplier in Europe, so you better start digging for contacts in
Taiwan or China.

Thanks in advance

Was this answered?

The code is the same as the resistor code, with a decimal place or two I
imagine.
"white brown brown" or "brown brown white" would be 910 or
11000000000

At a wild guess it is/was a 9.1V zener.

These are old parts. Produced in country's like
Czevoslovakia, Russia, East-Germany. I specialize
in difficult parts, and have seen them before. I buy
and sell difficult parts as one of my businesses.

Where do you live? I also can advise replacement parts
for the MAA501 and A227d. I have no replacement for the
E355d. I know it is a timer in I2L technology ( very old),
it must be possible to find a replacement. I think I can
also get the original parts. If you live in one of the
old east-european country's, you can get them over there.

If you are interested in purchasing them from us, I

Solution to Senditron-question:

Yesterday a visit from a former tube developing engineer who worked
at Philips-Valvo for a long time brought some light into this question

Most of you were guessing right regarding the use of the tube.

This is a small summary of what showed up:

1.) it´s NOT a voltage reference cell
2.) it´s not a mechanical inclination switch
3.) it´s a senditron tube, I got some excerpts from a Philips book on
gasfilled tubes which explains how some of them work.

the "normal" senditron is much larger, mine has a length of about 10
cm but they are larger otherwise.
They might be seen as relatives to an ignitron at that time.

My small one does not have the trigger electrode dipping in the Hg
pool as seen in the literature, it has two electrodes only.

If you llok at the picture of mine,

http://www.wuesten.net/strange/senditron2.jpg

you willsee that the bulb is pinched on both legs.

Somebody has guessed already that something is missing and he
was right.
This tube had an external spark gap installed and when fitring this,
field strenth must have been stron enough to ignite the arc in the tube.

I have no idea where this spark gap assembly went to and I have not
seen any pictures confirming this but it´s the only interpretation that
makes sense.

Thank you very much for all your contributions and ideas

Jan from Germany.

Hallo Jan,

As a consequence of my hollydays, my reaction is late:

I got the book "Industrial Electronics Handbook" by dr R. Kretzmann,
published by Philips Technical Library (which did not exists
anymore). In that book 5 pages are devoted to Senditrons. The shape
is as a H, but there are more electrodes. If you are interested, mail
it and I will try to scan these pages.

Any one have a couple of NE572/SA572 or LM387's laying around collecting dust?

I need a couple of them to duplicate an old patent circuit.
