Carolyn, won't that method make Cindex ignore those cross-refs. when verifying cross-refs.? Don't they have to be typed into the page field for "check...
Yes, you have to check them manually. But since this is an exception when all else fails to position them correctly, it's worth the manual checking, IMO....
The way I handle that is to set them both for lower case and then use abbreviations to cap the ones I want capped. Best of both worlds, and less time-consuming...
Man, the strangest thing just happened. You know the arrow in the upper left corner of record entry windows for turning on "propagate changes"? It's gone! The...
Reboot the computer? Uninstall and reinstall Cindex? It sounds like one of those glitches that are never explained, but that is how I would proceed. Regards ...
I've already tried rebooting, and that didn't fix it. Before I reinstall, can anyone tell me how much "customization" I'm going to lose by doing that? I assume...
Yeah probably will revert to factory defaults. But first -- did you perhaps resize the data entry window? Or have you tried that? That's not likely since...

... Yep, I thought of that, too. No dice. ... Hm, when I tried that a minute ago, the arrow wasn't available as a choice in that window. Now it is!! Spooky....
I have no plans to switch to Sky, but there is one feature they have that makes me very envious. I recently learned that in sky, when keying entries, they can...

Surely this must have come up for some of you before. I have two cross references to titles of literary works. Therefore, instead of the usual formatting of...
You could put a tilde in front of it, i.e., ~. If you do, be aware that those cross-refs. won't be checked when you run "check references." So I don't do it...
If there were lots of them, I might do it Carol's way. But with only two, I wuld use the tilde in front of the "see" on those records. Scott ... [Non-text...
... Yes, it would. Hm, I see a macro in the making. Cheers, Carol Roberts http://www.RobertsIndexing.com http://www.ArtWanted.com/CarolR Please do not use this...
I tried to check out these features and when I open an index and a record, this arrow is greyed out. Also I don't have "customize toolbar" under the view...
Place a tilde (~) before cross-reference "see" or "see also" and the italics will be overridden. The cross-reference leadins will be roman. ... -- Best, Pam...
I am including alpha letters at the beginning of each section for an index. This index also requires an explanatory headnote. I use {aaaa} to sort the...
Use numbers or symbols instead of the letter a in your curly brackets such as {1111} or {!!!!}. If you use symbols you're good to go. If you use numbers,...

Here's what I use for a headnote: {!!!!1}<Note: The italicized f and t following page numbers > {!!!!2}<refer to figures and tables, respectively.> {!!!!3}< > ...
I use angle brackets, rather than curly brackets, around the entire headnote to hide it from the sort. This moves it ahead of the rest of the index, including...
I find that ". ." (period space period) most reliably sorts to the very top of the file. In your case: {. .}HEADNOTE In ancient programming languages like...
Thank you Deborah, Craig, Carolyn, and Richard for your responses to my question. As always, I am grateful for the generous nature of the Cindex and indexing...
Thank you all! It's an undocumented feature (at least, it's not documented in the online help, which, as far as I could find, only describes its use in...
A client has asked me to tell her how many main entries there are in an index I delivered a while back. It's pretty long, so manually counting them is my last...
I just tried using {. .} to position a headnote, using letter-by-letter CMS sort and it didn't work. I find it does work with word-by-word. I usually use {00}...
Try adding a record with this format: { a}< > Make sure there's a space between the < and >. For the a, substitute whatever will force sort it where you want...
