Subject: [classblogmeister] Survey on Blog usage...
Hello,
I suspect that this will reach only a small percentage of CB users, but
that's OK. I actually just returned from a vacation of sorts, a few days in
my favorite NC city, Asheville, with my son, wife, and my parents. It was
great fun.
Anyway, a friend of mine, Gwen Solomon, is working on a new book about
instructional applications of Web 2.0 tools. She has established a survey
on Survey Monkey looking for examples of how teachers are using blogs,
wikis, podcasting, etc. If you have time, check out the survey and contribe
anything that you can.
The URL is:
http://tinyurl.com/cmu4qy <http://"/>
Great luck to you!

I am getting a "site not found" for that URL. Is it just me?

Is the "<P>" code generated by the interface or is it inputted by you? Try using a "<div>" opening and closing tags instead of the paragraph tags.. I doubt if setting the cellpadding and cellspacing to be "0" in the table will help, but it couldnt hurt. When you use a gui like the one David uses, it more than likely puts its own html code before and after what is being inputted by the user, so that you don't have to put any html (simple text can be put it without issue). Looking at the code it places your code into a table data tag within the larger table.. a class is defined as well with font faces and sizes..
Try that, and let me know what happens.

Gordon, I’m no html expert either, but I
do agree the problem probably has to do with line breaks vs. paragraphs.
Blogmeister (I think) will automatically insert an additional <p>
whenever you hit enter while pasting in code. If you are sure you have to go
down to the next line, try shift/enter, which will be treated like a line break
<br>. In looking at the code on your current page, there are a lot of
unnecessary br’s, I think, hence the unwanted spaces. My wimpy 2 cents.
Good luck – looks like you have some great ideas already cooking for next
year! Hey, it’s summer in NY, right? J All the

Gordon,
I am no html expert by any means but I pasted your code into notepad as a test
and it seemed to come out better when I closed the paragraph tag after the
</strong> tag in the first sentence. I also added <br><br>
above the <table> tag. 2 <br> = 1 <p> It came out spaced when
I previewed it after that. Could be that hitting the enter key in blogmeister
recognizes that spacing but other html editors do not?

What people do runs the spectrum from deleting all of their students and classes and starting again. The next year. Some students really get into blogging and ask their teachers to keep them up. There are some maintenance issues with that, i.e., approval, content, etc., so some teachers do not want to do that for a full year and just have it up over the summer.
You could archive your classes, i.e., rename the class Class 08-09 and go from there.

Hello Problem Solvers,
I may be having a situation similar to Lorraine's. I am trying to create a new class list for my 2009-10 group. Below in the screencap, notice that there is an asterisk after 2008-09. This will not change to 2009-10 when I use Add new class. However, under Class menu, Current Class, it says 2009-10. When I type the name 2009-10 in the Class title box, it disappears when I come back and display it.
When I View My Blog, the new class is not displayed in the right margin. I tried adding kid accounts and still no display.
I have deleted and added the class again a few times, but with no results. Doe someone see something I might be missing here? Many thanks,

Lorraine,
Could you provide the url of the teacher blog in question? I'll see
what I can do to merge the two classes together...

Now that the classes (room 10 and 10*) have gone, we are getting the article entries appearing in the left hand side from students who had previously been in this teacher's class but were adopted into another class some months ago.
We have a problem. Can some one please help or at least clarify why it occurred so we avoid this for next time?
PROBLEM ONE:
Room 10 has lost is students.
The class had a duplication of students. While a nice list of students appeared under the heading Room 10 in the right hand panel of the class blog, there appeared to be two classes showing when we went to the Class Panel. i.e.
Room 10 and
10*
Somehow students had blogs under both classes, a duplication, perhaps in the setting up process.
The problem first identified itself when the email approval system did not appear to be working. The teacher would approve articles from her email but they were not appearing on the student pages.
When I had a look we discovered what is outlined above. The student pages under the 10* had several articles published, the ones in Room 10 only had three. It seemed that the approval system was working for the student blogs listed under 10* and not Room 10.
I tried to orphan students from Room 10 in the hope that we could marry them into the 10* (where there seemed to be the most action occurring.) I had difficulty in doing this as I could only select the Room 10 option for the teacher.
As we decided we didn't want the Room 10 list (only 3 articles published) we decided to delete that class and remain with the 10* version. With Room 10onlyhighlighted we chose Delete Class. Were we sure? Yep. Only three articles would be lost.
Oh dear - all disappeared. i.e the Room 10 and the 10*
Are we stupid or what!! Hmm we really didn't expect this to happen.
Anyone else come across this?
But wait there's more....
PROBLEM TWO:
I went back in to create a new class. Thank goodness the teacher is persistent like me. We went to the Class Panel and then "Add A New Class". It says "Done!" but nothing happens. No New Class Appears.
Oh Dear, Oh Dear!
Any enlightened suggestions would be so very much appreciated.
