Commodore 1701 & 1702 Monitors - some questions..   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #327 of 773 |
I've got some technical questions but hopefully someone here can help.

First question I have is.. does anyone know what the horizontal line
resolution of a 1702 monitor is when using it for TV (front inputs)?
(this is not lines of text)

Second, has anyone out there made (or bought) an S-video
cable/adapter for these?
From what i've gathered from researching it, the seperate Chroma and
Luma inputs are the same as a S-video mini-din cable/connector. They
just used seperate RCA connections before the industry standardized
the S-video mini-din connector. I'm thinking of making a cable for
this. I've searched high and low for one to buy - but can't find one.

Third question: What would the line resolution be using s-video?
Basicly i'm trying to figure out whether it's worth making a cable.
If anyone out there has any information - or has tried any of this,
please reply.

I've also got a 1701 monitor. Not sure what all's wrong with it -
won't power up - maybe just a power supply. I tested the 2 boards
with a multimeter and didn't find anything (yes, both fuses are ok).
But the big round medal thing (transformer?) may be the problem. I
used to turn these monitors on with rf remote control power modules
from radio shack (appliance modules). Well, one night after doing
some major cleaning up - I accidentally plugged the monitor into a
lamp module. Both the module and the monitor no longer work.
Picture tube is probably still good, although it was always much more
fuzzy then my 1702 was. If anyone has a 1701 with a bad picture tube
and wants to sell power supply parts from out of it, I'd be
interested (just post a reply). Or if someone wants it for parts,
let me know. I'd also consider trading some of my vintage Commodore
64 computer parts for 1701 monitor parts. But, then again, it would
probably be a whole lot easier just to chunk the thing and buy
another off ebay.
