I upgraded my parents LCII to a 040 with a Sonnet Presto Plus card.
The installation was simple and took me about 5 minutes. Besides
giving them a faster mac 66MHz instaed of 16MHz), it has an integrated
ethernet connector that will even talk to my iBook. The card also has
32MB of additional RAM so breaking through the LCII's old 10MB barrier
and now has 42MB of addressable RAM. This allowed me to install a RAM
disk which really speeds up disk intensive operations. The machine is
noticeably faster all around. It's almost like jumping a generation
forwards.

The upgrade also makes the LCII OS 8 compatible but I haven't tried that.

The card never caused any trouble (and it's been in there for three
years now)
