The future of Open Source in Japan?   Message List

More and more governments around the world are starting to push for the
use of Open Source software

example: UK government backs open source
<http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7910110.stm> by the BBC

With the worldwide economic recession, companies might look towards
saving on their IT budgets and Open Source might be a way to safe money.
Open Office <http://www.openoffice.org//> is now mature enough to be
an serious alternative option to replace MS Office. Firefox
<http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/> is slowly gaining market share
as the prefered web browser. Some enterprises have committed to wide
Linux deployment, such as automaker Peugeot Citroën's plans to
install 20,000 Novell Suse Linux desktops. Many other companies leave
Linux to the engineering and development staff or only for server
solutions.

Are there any Click members that are working with Open Source, or
promoting Open Source solutions?
What is the status of Open Source within Japan

Looking forward to some interesting feedback.

Best Regards,

Marco
