Thanks! Will definitely try that when I get to the office tom. I am using CF for
a very simple db-driven application. Hence, i did not upgrade and stick with the
free developer edition.

I believe the issue that you are running into is the one that plagues older
ColdFusion engines. Fortunately, it is an easy fix. You must download the
Jconnector and and install it then create your data source connection using
"Other" and manualy connect. The problem is ColdFusion MX does not recognize
MySQL 5 or it's drivers as a native connection since MySQL 5.+ came out years
after CF MX.
See Adobe's technote here:
http://kb2.adobe. com/cps/185/ tn_18591. html
This is specific to MySQL 5.5. Google "Coldefusion Jconnector" and search out
the specific versions that you are dealing with if necessary.
Once you have installed the jar file once, you will not need to do so again.
However, keep the connector instructions handy because you will need to make a
generic connection to any database that you create.
Hope this helps.

3.51 driver in my terminal. ColdFusion MX was successfuly installed and I was
able to log on to the Administrator page. I was also able to connect to MySQL
and the ODBC as well. I am not sure though why when I define the data source on
the CF page, I get the error message:
