Are you interested in knowing about a Clin-ton scan-dal that has been
covered up since 1996 and won't be mentioned by the main stream media?

Would
you like to know how the computer manufacturers have duped the entire
world's consumer population to force them to buy IT equipment they
didn't have to buy?

Would you like to know how to easily repair
your computer/printer without replacing parts when EVERYONE else says
you need a part replaced?

How would you like to be able to make your computer work flawlessly for 10
years?

The world is fast becoming a junkyard for e-wastes. We can help avoid
piling up of e-wastes with a proper use of used computers and the
other related accessories. The website
http://usedcomputers.consumerplanet.info helps buy used computers in
good working condition at very cheap prices. There are agencies that
give away used computers even for no cost.

[from BoingBoing]
--Band releases album on "obsolete" 3.5" floppy disc--

A UK band called Batch Totem has released a 74-minute album compressed
down to fit on a 1.4MB, 3.5" floppy disk. Who need vinyl nostalgia?

"Trunkeret & Ikonisk" by Batch Totem (an alias for musician, Jonas
Olesen) consists of 19 tracks, which are heavily compressed in the GSM
6.10 WAV format, at various bitrates. The album is on the Ristretto
label, and can be bought online with PayPal.

"The idea is essentially to release an album on an almost obsolete
medium that fits very well with the music on an aesthetical level,"
says Olesen. "Secondly, the scope of the project is to use heavy
compression as a feature that shapes the music, instead of a
limitation that reduces sound quality."

I think mine is a silver model. I never got any of the accessories for it
since, honestly, I was far more interested in my Atari 2600. Since it has
been up in the attic in the humid South, it may be screwed.

In high school, the computer lab only had TRS-80s and VIC-20s. I think there
may have been a single Commodore 64, but I can't remember.

Jacked was in college, my computer lab courses involved old Zenith computers
which looked like TRS-80 clones.

[this is a neat community event happening in berkely, culled from

This weekend, MAKE: and the Alameda County Computer Resource Center
(ACCRC) in Berkeley, California are holding a 24 hour event for makers
to build stuff from the tons of fantastic gear collected by the
electronics recycler. BYOT! (Bring your own tools!) Here are the details:

ACCRC in Berkeley, CA and Make have been collecting household
electronics--including old projects, failed inventions, half finished
prototypes. All of these items will be diverted to ReMake, a 24-hour
event beginning at noon on Saturday, April 28.

Come find parts for your new projects and work with others to
create something new from salvaged electronics. ACCRC will provide
internet, sleeping quarters, food, and plenty of toys to aid makers to
encourage us to recycle and ReMake. Bring your tools and anything else
needed to create. You can also bring anything you ReMake to the
upcoming Maker Faire, May 19-20 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds, where we
will showcase how a little innovation can make the old, new again.

Where: Alameda County Computer Resource Center (ACCRC), 1501 East
Shore Highway, Berkeley, CA 94710

     When: Noon, April 28, 2007 - Noon, April 29, 2007
