This is a copy of the mail I sent to you seperately Ken.
Yes Ken, Both CZM and CZP will be able to stack large files if you have
sufficient RAM, which you have.
The Automatic alignment functions are available in both programs. If you
need to rotate only CZP has an automatic method which works most of the
time. Manual alignment is available in both programs, by setting 'Points'
, Brian Valentine has done a tutorial on the internet which explains this.
The manual method can cope with shift scale and rotation and is definitely
doable when you are only using a few frames, it gets tedious when doing a
lot.
When using the standard macros in CZM alignment is done as part of each
stacking method.
When using the standard macro set in CZP there is a seperate alignment macro
to run first, then a choice of stacking methods. You can also try all of
the available methods in one go using 'All Methods' this will align once
before doing all methods. There are also individual macro sets for each
stackig method which you can use once you have found which method is best
for you. CZP has additional stacking methods to those offered by CZM.
CZP is the only version of the program I am maintaining, though I will write
macro sets, and give advice for CZM, but will not be fixing any program bugs
or adding new features.
In both programs custonized macro sets can be developed for special
applications, e.g. one could be made that runs faster with B&W images.
Both programs are capable of Batch Processing. This means you could leave
them running overnight to process several sets of images.

Subject: [CombineZ] Stacking Really Large Files Possible?
Hi,
I shoot medium format B/W film (6x7cm negs) and scan them to create 115 MB
files. Subject matter is landscapes only. I want to be able to stack 2 to 4
of these large files to increase depth-of-field. My computer is running
Windows XP with 4 GB of RAM. With the /3GB Boot.ini switch about 3.4 GB is
available at least to some applications like Photoshop CS3 (what about
CombineZ?)
I recently heard about CombineZM , did a little browsing and discovered
there is also a CombineZP.
Because image scans are not perfectly aligned and can vary slightly in size
(in the direction of the scanning head) I expect I will need to use the
Resize/Rotate/Move method I read about in the CombineZM help file I found...
is this also available in CombineZP? I'm not looking for a quick and dirty
method, but something that I can make work. Time is not big a factor.
Question, will either of these (or any other program ) work with for my
situation?
Thanks,
Ken
