Description

Comets are a field of astronomy wherein amateurs have been contributing very well since history upto date. This group is dedicated mainly to the observations of comets and comet-hunting from India. As there is a lack of any such observations and observing groups dedicated only to comets in our country, we would like to encourage particularly this field as amateurs from other countries are constantly contributing their discoveries, and it's only our country which is left out. And that too there's never been a single discovery by an Indian from India, apart from Prof. M.K.Vainu Bappu who is the ONLY Indian to have discovered a comet but from outside the country in 1949!!! So we would invite like-minded people to get together and face the challenge.

Here, we will discuss all that's related to comets and comet hunting, imaging and recent news and discoveries e.t.c. This is a group specially devoted to the research of comets. Of course, people from places other than India are also welcome to join and share their experiences and knowledge about comets. This is a unique specialized yahoogroup!! We hope to make some difference.

HOMEPAGE IMAGE : The image is of the bright Comet Machholz, which was discovered by the veteran comet hunter Don Machholz. This image is taken on 5 January 2005, and the credit goes to Ajay & Neelam Talwar and Vikrant Narang at Nainital Observatory. Ajay Talwar is a member of this group.

The comet is sporting two tails, and is below Pleiades (M45) open cluster. Aldebaran and Hyades of the Taurus constellation is on the bottom-left of the picture.
