The Danakil Depression in northern
Ethiopia's Afar region is home to Lake Asal. It's Africa's lowest
point, at 155m below sea level, and one of the hottest places on Earth.
Salt
has been mined in the area for thousands of years. Traders still lead
thousands of camels through 50C temperatures to carry salt blocks away.
Radio 4 joins the traditional Camel Train on Friday morning.
