Compaq uses philips cd-rw burners in their
computers and they are nothing but trouble! The software
they used on their older models, "just burn", would
only alow you to write at 2x even thought you may have
had a 4x burner. Also only some brands of cd-r/cd-rw
media would work properly. On their newer 5000 and 7000
series computers, they are still using philips cd-rw
burners. They are now using adaptec software, which is
great but the faster burners (8x) are still nothing but
trouble. The burners are picky about which brand of cd-r
media you use and don't write up to maxium speed. When
recording, it may indicate a speed 8X, however that's only
true if it takes about 9 minutes to copy a full CD. If
it takes around 19 minutes, your only writing at 4X
and if it's taking around 38 minutes, your only
writing at 2X. They should dump Philips Cd-Rw burners and
use faster/better Burners like Sony/Lite-on that are
reliable and compatable with most all cd-r/cd-rw media.
