help

my son removed an operating system (non-windows) from our computer and
now I can't run windows xp
Black screen :
GRUB loading stage 1.5.

GRUB loading, please wait
Error 17
I have xp service pack disc but don't know how to boot from the CD (
as I have been reading on various websites. Can anyone help me????

All drives must be detected by the BIOS. Maybe your motherboard has the autodetect option??...

Any idea what "GRUB" is? My guess is that it is what was deleted. I don't believe you can boot from the XP service pack disk .... however, I have been wrong...
