I have a starup problem with a gateway computer that has the
milledium editon for windows on it. I cannot get the computer to
startup. Everytime I try to start the computer, I see the millenium
title page, then the computer goes to the black screen with the
blinking cursor. Then, I get the error message that the computer was
not shut down properly and I need to start in safe mode. But, I can't
get the computer to do anything after that. I cannot go to safe mode at
all. I tried downloading a boot disk for the millenium edition. The
boot disk is labeled bootmec.exe. I put the emergency boot disk in the
computer, it goes thur its setup and then I get :\>. That's when I
really get lost. Ain't got a clue as to what its asking for. I really
would like to get this computer back up and running . Any help would be
appreciated.
thanks,

When you restart it have you tried pushing F8?? F8 will put you into the windows startup menu and allow you to use "System Restore" or variety of other options...

Hi Jim, I would tend to think your cpu is toast or your ram is, without either working properly you'll get that same results. Have you tried clearing the CMOS...
