The cable is not hardwired or permanently
attached.The machine and cable work fine on the vendors
Toshiba's computor and my neighbors Dell.<br>I just cant
seem to get mine to work. In the BIOS it shows that my
serial port is on comm2 with irq of 3. I set the sewing
machine software to the same setting then sycronize the
sewing machine. I keep getting an error message that
theres no communication with the sewing machine.

I am computer stupid! I am looking to fix a
problem I am having with uploading pictures from my desk
top folder to yahoo clubs. I used to be able to do
this all the time, and then one day (about six weeks
ago) I got message "Document contained no data. Please
try again." I had this problem before with yahoo mail
and they said to update browser, so I did. Naturally
when this message came up I thought all I would have
to do is to update my browser. I tried that and it
not work. Now when I go in Edit pulldown
menu/preferences I get message "Cannot load perference dlls.
Please re-install Netscape Communicator." I thought I
did that already, but I guess not. Also, I have
written netscape and they said I should un-install
netscape communicator (which I did by going into control
panel|add/remove programs) Then I re-installed communicator 4.6 [I
was using 4.51 when this happened] but still have
same problem. also, netscape said to go into Run|type
in sysedit and make sure that auto.bat.exe file had
C:\wintem and C:\wintemp files there. It did not. I have
tried a lot of different things, and some I can't even
remember what I did. I went to update to 4.61 and when it
came time to install edpref32.dll I got message that
it could not install that. I am at a loss as to what
to do next. I used to go in yahoo clubs and post
tons of pictures from my desk top folder; and I can't.
I still get message "Document contains no data."
(that message is just a bit different that one before;
could something have happened that I am not aware of?)
I know that this is not all that urgent, but I do
miss posting pictures-and so do a lot of my on line
friends! I would appreicate any help/suggestions with

u might want to try reinstalling it again or
running the installation file from the server rather then
downloading it. also, there are 2 versions of yahoo messanger
available. one for users of yahoo pager and other for new
users. make sure ur using the one for new users (u'd b
surprised how widespread this problem is). hope this helps.
also would be helpful if u gave your os and connection

if ur using LAN connection, chances r u r behind
a firewall. ICQ has a special set of settings for
the firewalled connections, but those settings can
differ with each firewall installed. contact ur tech
coordinator (or someone similar) for firewall settings. when
installing ICQ or trough "pereferences" menu u can tell ICQ
what kind of firewall ur behind and what settings it
uses. after that the process should be automatic. i
hope this helps. u can also try ICQ tech

The cable is hardwired, permanantly attached? if
this is the case then mabye the cable needs to go into
a DB25 port instead of being adapted to the DB9?
Again I am just following the logical trouble areas.

The sewing machine is a PFAFF 7570 from Germany.
The software is also German, PC-Designer ver. 2.2.
The cable from the machine has RS232 connector with
an adapter plug:29-TMA925-00 that mates to the DB-9
port on the computor. I dont have any other periferals
to connect to the the computor to see if the port on
the DB9 is working or not so I am still looking for a
way to check it. I tried all the options for the four
different comm ports from the setup screen be still have
been able to connect.

August, but I did re-install it a few months ago, but I
can't remember when the error started, about 3-4 weeks
I think. I haven't added anything new, except IE5,
but it was doing the error before I downloaded it

Hi Mary, did you install something called
"EReader" recently? Maybe you added a scanner to your
system or something like that? Can you pinpoint when the
error started happening?Next time you see the error
message, look for a "details" button which should tell you
what .EXE file is causing the problem. This error is
the result of a process making a request for memory
space that is in conflict with another process.

Anyone know what the Registry

Sounds like you've done the basics. The serial
port is turned on in bios and not giving you any
conflicts. On of the simpilist and easiest things to over
look is the pin out configuration. DB9 on a PC is a
setup in a standard fashion. I would look for the
pinout config for the PFAF sewing machine. Verify the
proper pins are going to the proper pins on the machine.
Also isn't there some translation software that needs
to run to communicate with the sewing machine? I
have never seen a PFAF or any other computerized
sewing machine but the logic in solving the problem is
the same.

Help. I have a Packard Bell 132CDT, Pent 100,
with a PB650 motherboard. I've been trying to use a
program with a computor link to a PFAF sewing machine.
The link is made with a cable to the DB9 connector on
the computor. Everything that I can check says that
the comm ports are OK and that there are no conflicts
with the IRQ's or I/O ports. Is there any other way to
check that the serial port is active?

So what is being said is that you need to buy a
new machine..... personally I would go back to the
company that sold the compaq to you and since they told
you it was upgradeable and it isn't I would try and
get them to replace it with 1) one that is
upgradeable or 2) a new system........

I have run into this type of stuff before and I
hate computer companies that put everything on the
motherboard. I'm not sure what you can do to upgrade the
Compaq computer you have (I have never worked on one
before), but you could consider buying a new motherboard
and processor (which will probably require a new
case), and simply transfering your HD, FD and CD drives
to the new case. You may find you can get the case,
motherboard and processor a lot cheaper than you would expect
(AMD K-6 2 processors are very reasonably priced, I
just upgraded to a K-6 2 333 mhz w/motherboard and new
case for $263 cdn. (will be cheaper in U.S.)) This
will mean you need a new video card and sound card, an
AGP 8mb video card is about $100 cdn., and a
soundblaster live (awesome sound card) is about $85 cdn.

i have a compaq presario 4550 and when I bought
it they told me it was upgradable and when 98 came
out i could install that. Well now they say that
since everything is on the motherboard there is no way
to upgrade from 48 mbs to where i need to be. and
they also say they don't make drivers for windows 98.
Is there anyway around this? Is there any hope for
this box of junk?

Is it possible the Digital is a UNIX box or a DEC
Alpha processor? If so then the hard drives are scsi
(scuzzi)Small Computer Systems Interface. You will need a scsi
hard drive and scsi controller. If this not a Dec
Alpha or Other unix variant then a model number from
the drive would be a big help.

Please tell me at what point the machine fails.  Also, what OS will be loaded?
Will it be loaded from CD or floppy?  Will it be a new install or an upgrade
version?

shouting..... re:your problem... sorry I've never installed a
HD to a digital.... didn't it come with a manual or
instruction book? If not look up the manufacturer and try
calling them for support.

If the Hard Drive is making the kind of noises that you say it is ..... TAKE IT

y friend bought a Dell computer with a
pentium133 processor in it. The hard drive is a Western
Digital listed as 0 in the set-up as is everything
else.There is no fan on the CPU. The Bios version is A05.
How can we access the hard drive to accept an

i, I'm leigh, and I'm severely computer
intelligence challenged. My problem for today is that I can
not get my computer to fax. It says that the program
is not installed, but since I have professional
office, I know it should be there. Would it be on the
Windows98 cd, or is there a Microsoft office cd that I'm
