Re: The on/off button on the 990

Thanks for all replies! I will indeed try to find one on ebay fore a
replacement. I did the battery door thing last year before I got my
S10.

Don't get me wrong, I love the S10 but this 990 still takes decent
photo's and I love having it as a backup. The one thing I could
always count on with these camera's is the instant snap. Two friends
have...crap,can't think of the brand, but the same camera, a popular
one. I tried to use one and to have to wait a pronounced amount of
time after you hit the button for the shutter to snap is
unacceptable. A friend was over last night and was looking at buying
a Casio. All I told her was to check the shutter speed. I didn't know
anything about the camera but to replace the aggravation of the one
she had, check the shutter speed before buying.

I would also like to repair it and give it to my aunt to use to take
photo's to sell things on craigslist. If it was my first foray into
digital camera's, (the 990)I think I would be pleased with the 990.

Just sad to see it unusable so may try one more time to repair,
thanks for the comments!

As for the moisture, it's been almost a year now since it was left
outside. I would think, but could be wrong, that it has had time to
dry. And this new behavior on the button is totally different than
what it did at first.

Does the freezer work for cell phones too? I would think it would
freeze the moisture but by your reply, it sounds like perhaps it
evaporates before it has a chance to freeze?

Has anyone ever taken this apart and perhaps cleaned it. Many months back my son left it outside and it was never the same again as in the half press to focus...

You could check through the archives, but I don't off hand recall any mention of it. The forum was very busy for the first four years or so of the decade, but...

Yup, when it became clear that no one was intending that there would be anything superior to the CP8400/8800 in the foreseeable future, I traded image quality...
