Hi everybody,
We have made Corman Lisp 2.0 available for download at the
Corman Lisp web site:
The download page:

You can find the release notes here:

We apologize for the delay in this release. Earlier this
year we formed a business,
Corman Technologies, to better support Corman Lisp
development and marketing.
There seemed to be an unending number of details and things
to do, accounts to
be set up, etc. relating to this. We believe we are now in a
position to offer better
support, rapid integration of new features, and standards
compatibility than we were
able to in the past.
We are looking forward to the International Lisp Conference
http://www.international-lisp-conference.org/
beginning Oct. 27. We are pleased to be able to announce
general availability of
Corman Lisp 2.0 at this conference. As well, we have
notified the J13 Common
Lisp standards committee of our intent to become a voting
member. We hope to
contribute to the advancement of the standard, in particular
to standardizing threads,
sockets, and other areas we feel the standard is
significantly missing.
With the addition of Corman Technologies, we have been told
by a committee
representative from Franz that there will be enough voting
members to move the
standard along.
Much of the significant work in Corman Lisp 2.0 involved
enhancements to the threading
technology. This was needed to enable Corman Lisp DLLs to
integrate seamlessly into
existing applications. This will be a subject of my talk at
the lisp conference. I hope many
of you will be able to make it. If not, I plan to post my
presentation slides at
cormanlisp.com.
I believe that Corman Lisp 2.0 provides sufficient DLL
capabilities to create plug-ins
for some popular applications, such as products by Adobe,
Microsoft and others.
We have not yet tried creating plug-ins yet, and plan to do
some work in this area soon.
We plan to post some sample plug-ins for various
applications, written in Corman Lisp,
in the near future. If you want to do any work with DLLs, we
recommend using
Visual Studio.NET, which is available from Microsoft. The
.NET part of it is not necessary,
but the C and C++ compiler and development environment will
provide all the tools
you need to build and debug client applications which use
Corman Lisp DLLs. Other
platforms may be used, but we will not necessarily be able
to offer support for these
platforms.
Part of our business strategy is to try to achieve
profitability for the Corman
Lisp products. The only way we have of doing this, for now,
is by selling
licenses. We have tried to keep the license price low, and
to offer significant
capabilities even for users who do not choose to purchase a
license. However,
beginning with this release, some features will only be fully
enabled for
registered users. The DLL generation is supported for
licensed users only.
Any user may compile DLLs, but DLLs compiled without a valid
registration
will periodically remind the user (using the client
application, that loads the
DLL) that the DLL is made from an unlicensed copy of Corman
Lisp. We also
expect to increase the price of a Corman Lisp license (by
around 25%)
beginning in December. Between now and November 30, the
price
will remain at US $200.
A large amount of effort and expense has gone into
development of Corman Lisp, and
we have been increasing this in the past year. Corman Lisp
2.0 represents many
significant improvements, in all areas: IDE, application deployment, embedded
capabilities, ansi compatibility, compiler, etc. Please
download Corman Lisp 2.0 and
let us know what you think about it.
Please note that you will be required to submit a valid
e-mail address when you download
the install program. A password will be e-mailed to you
which may be used to run the
install program. We have done this to help us to obtain
better information about who has
downloaded the product and to allow us to maintain a private,
internal e-mail list. We will
not use this e-mail address for any other purpose, or share
it with anybody.
Thanks all for your interest and support.
Sincerely,
Roger Corman
President, Corman Technologies
