"Crystal Clear and the 7 Properties of Successful Small Projects"

Dr. Alistair Cockburn will be XP Denver's guest speaker on Monday, April 12.
Dr. Cockburn is the author of the book "Agile Software Development" which
won a Jolt Productivity Award. Based on his excellent presentations at XP
Agile Universe and the Agile Development Conference, this opportunity to see
him speak locally is highly recommended. The Qwest Auditorium seat more than
200 and the doors will open at 6:00 PM. Included below is information on his
presentation topic, the meeting agenda, and directions. XP Denver meetings
are open to the public and there is no fee to attend. Please visit our new
website at http://www.xpdenver.org for more information on this and other
meetings.

The theme of the talk is the recently completed Crystal Clear methodology,
the smallest member of the Crystal family. The entire Crystal family hangs
on three practices: Frequent Delivery, Close Communication, and Reflective
Improvement. Crystal Clear makes optimizations for small collocated teams,
replacing Close Communications with Osmotic Communications.

In a deviation from the normal methodology description, rather than
prescribe a set of procedures that, if followed, are supposed to lead to the
achievement of success properties, Crystal Clear names the desired project
properties directly and lets the team tune its own procedures to achieve
them. On the negative side, this doesn't give starting teams so much
guidance as to what those procedures might be, but on the positive side, it
gives more experienced teams a lot of latitude in using their prior
knowledge.
It happens that these properties are common across projects of all
sizes, but again, they are here optimized for small collocated teams. If you
don't have a small collocated team, then it should be obvious to you that
the procedures you follow will be slightly or very different.

This talk will be quite informal, allowing interruptions for question,
answer and side digressions.

AGENDA:

6:00 - 6:30 PM Networking and refreshments

6:30 - 6:35 PM Announcements and door prize giveaways

6:35 - 7:45 PM Dr. Cockburn's presentation

DIRECTIONS

The Qwest auditorium is at their building on the corner of 17th and Curtis
at 1005 17th Street. At street level, to the right of the escalators, are
doors leading to elevators. Take an elevator to the "A" level (Auditorium).
If those doors are locked, you can take the exterior escalators to Level 1
and enter via doors to the right of the escalator landing. If these doors
are locked, go to the main building lobby which is on Level 1 if you walk
straight from the escalator landing.

In addition to street parking, there is an outside parking lot on the East
side of the Qwest building that costs a flat $6 after 4pm. Several other
lots are within a few blocks and covered parking can be found in the Tabor
Center for around $4.
