Dear Friends of COSWA,
The Committee on the Status of Women in Anthropology (COSWA) of the
American Anthropological Association invites you to participate in a
work climate survey for practicing anthropologists. If you identify
primarily as a practitioner, this survey is for you!
COSWA is a voluntary committee of the AAA. In 2005, we ran a
climate survey of academics and the results of that survey will be
made available on the AAA website within the next 6 months. This
current survey is one attempt at "getting at" the non-academic folks
and finding out more about them. In addition to its focus on the
gendered dimensions of practicing anthropology, we hope that this
survey may also help the AAA build programs and services that will
be of more utility to practitioners than what they have
traditionally been able to provide.
This survey is being administered through the AAA, and the AAA does
not currently have an IRB process. The data will be shared with the
Survey Development Team for analysis, void of names and email
addresses. IRB approval to work with the data at the University of
Memphis has been sought, and we anticipate the bulk of the analysis
to be housed at the University of Memphis. However, we will rely
heavily on our team of practitioners for their insights to shape and
guide the analysis process. Members of the Survey Development Team
appear below. The data will be aggregated and summarized in a
report to be published on the AAA website. Aspects of our findings
will also appear in Anthropology News and other publication means.
One of our greatest challenges has been to acquire a comprehensive
list of practicing anthropologists. We encourage you to forward the
survey to your practitioner networks to improve the response rate
and collective knowledge of the work climate for practicing
anthropologists.
The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete in full.
Please do not complete the survey more than once.
