Hi Mike,
I believe I may have fixed this problem, finally, in the current beta v2.4.
If you get a chance, and can recreate the situation, I'd be interested in
whether the problem still occurs.

Hi Wally,
Good to hear from you! A number of companys are selling the Samsung
panels under their own logo. I recently got a Dell 1707FP and it's
been excellent. There's a wide screen version that is well within your
budget. The presets are easy to access via menu, and it calibrates
well with my Eye One 2 display.
I'd be interested in your experience with the Huey, which is the little
brother of my Eye One.
BTW - although I still monitor messages here, the real curvemeister

Hello, All!
I need to replace my monitor. I intend to purchase something in the
20-22" range, LCD. I really want one that decently represents colors.
I have a Huey so I can calibrate, although I'm not so sure how good it
is as a LCD calibrator. I would like to keep the cost under $400 but I
may have too many constraints? Recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Wally

Hi David,
This was indeed my mistake, and I'm in the process of deactivating the
serial number now.
Thanks for the heads up!

Hi Ted,
I loaded your registry entries, and of course it works perfectly on my
system. This happens a lot.
I'll take a closer look at the program itself and let you know if I find
anything.
Mike
I sent it off; let me know if you do not receive it.
Thanks,
Ted

The curvemeister settings are stored in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Curvemeister.com
If you could export these to a reg file and email them to

Thanks.

Follow-up...
I am somewhat familiar with regedit; may need some specific
instructions to accomplish what you need.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your response. I do not run in full screen mode. I do not
have the "goodies" option turned on. I am running photoshop with the
same user ID that I installed it with, login with, and it is an
"administrator" account.
Not sure what if other options are saved...

Hi Ted,
Absolutely - the location of the curve window is normally saved, and I'd
like to address this as soon as possible. I have a configuration very
similar to yours - CS2 on CP Pro, and don't have this problem.
I have some questions to narrow this down. Are other options saved, such as
the color space radio buttons? Are you running Photoshop in full screen
mode? Another thing that *can* affect window placement is selecting the
Photoshop *Goodies* option to always show the progress bar while any filter
is being run. This could also be a permissions issue - did you install
using the same account that you normally use for login, and does your
account normally have admin privileges?
Are you familiar with the use of regedit? I may ask that you export your
Curvemeister settings to a file.
Mike
Hi Mike,
I am using curvemeister version 2.1.15, PS CS2, on Windows XP Pro
machine. When I open curvemeister, the curve window automatically
situates itself at the upper left-hand corner of the image; this
location results in the curve window covering a portion of the image
itself. Each time I use the plug-in, I end up moving the curve window
to another, more convenient, location on my screen.
It seems to me that an earlier version of curvemeister "remembered"
where the curve window was on the screen when last closed, and
reopened in the same place. I found this behavior more convenient.
Either way, it would be nice to have this option...
Any chance for a modification to allow for this?
Thanks,
Ted
Hi - I'm somewhat of a novice with regard to corrections in Photoshop
Elements, but I have taken a few classes at the Electic Academy. My
husband and I travel a lot in our Motorhome, and I especially enjoy
taking landscapes of the incredible Western US.
Looking forward to learning about curves and how they might help me.

I fixed a problem that prevented pasted curve text from being interpreted correctly in some situations. The problem involved space characters being added to the end of a line when the text was posted.
The beta version 2.1.14 is available in the usual location, Owners of Curvemeister 2 may download this version via "Start>Programs>Curvemeister.com>Check for Updates" . Please email me if you have any questions about accessing the beta
The curve copy and paste operations are accessed using the Curve right-click menu. They are handy for documenting curves, and for sending them to others.
These commands may also be used for copying and pasting curves within curvemeister. For example, the Lightness curve of Lab can be copied and pasted to the RGB curve of RGB.
I've put up a new shipping version of Curvemeister, v2.1.11, as well as beta and demo version 2.1.13 of Curvemeister.
If you haven't upgraded in a while, there are quite a number of cool new features, the major one being the Lab mode saturation slider.
2.1.13 Changes:
o Arrow keys now move samples by one image pixel, arrow with shift moves 10 pixels.
o Improved the prioritizing of pins. Clicking on a pin or a neutral gives it the highest priority. For example, in Lab mode, the last clicked neutral takes priority, instead of the first one created.
o Changes to the curve interface, including reduced flickering during redraw, and the ability to reliably click on a point to select it without moving it.
o Eyedropper commands are handled more consistently. A menu command will affect all of the currently selected eyedroppers, instead of the eyedropper being clicked on.
o Compare mode includes image data from other layers.
Thank you for your response and information about the training; I appreciate it.
I will subscribe tonight to it and I am sure that I will learn a lot about the digital side of implementing the visions that I have in my head.
I installed this colour profile manually under the desktop properties, and this worked, but I cannot select this as a CMYK colour profile in Photoshop CS. I do not understand why Windows XP would accept it, but Photoshop won't, unless this falls into the big black hole of the Microsoft abyss.
Logic would dictate that the issue is local to me, otherwise Mike Russel would surely have fixed this by now, or other people would have mentioned this too, unless this ICC profile is only for newbies like me and the professionals use their own ICC artworks.
See you around and from one newbie
to another newbie: a warm welcome to you.
Regards
Jacques

Hi Jacques, I'm new here myself, and would recommend you do the free email and group based training Mike offers. just email him. It woun't help with your current problem however :)
Did you install the profile in Windows? Just right click on the profile and
select 'install'. That all I did and it then just worked.
hope this helps,

OK, my Home Depot, Lowe's, and Ace Hardware were all pretty close
together. (Far Western suburbs of Chicago.) So, I picked up 4 sets of
paint chips. I'll mail them to Mike R on Friday.
I got a set from each store of their standard set of colors. I learned
the hard way with Sears that most of those premium and designer sets
of colors don't have the full rainbow of colors. They don't have
everything needed for the 8 hues of the LAB wheel. The colors aren't
as "pure" either.
So, I compared them to the Sears chips that already have pins. I
picked as close as possible and a color or two on either side - if it
was there and close. After Mike scans, I should be able to easily
narrow these down to 10 pins for each color set.
The 4th set is a Benjamin Moore set from Ace Hardware. It really did
have a full rainbow of colors. Actually they had a couple of sets of
colors that qualified. Why not another choice.
My part is easy and quick on either end of this. Please be patient
with Mike. He has a lot of scanning ahead of him. This may not be all
he has to do either. ;-)
Thanks,
Clyde
Thanks for volunteering, Clyde. This is a great service to the group.
Another thought - anyone who has access to a paint store can pick up two
sets, and send one set to me. I'll be happy to scan and provide pin values
for the group.

BTW, these chips ARE 4 to a strip. I just cut out the ones I wanted.
Sears is pretty much everywhere in the US and many other countries
too. I thought about Home Depot as a good alternative, but someone
here said that they weren't throughout the whole country. Menards is
pretty much here in the upper Midwest. Lowe's just got here to
Chicagoland, so I don't know how far it spreads. Ace Hardware is
pretty widespread - I think.
These are all stores I can get to. If there is some agreement in this
group, I will go to one of these and pick up paint chips that are
close to the Sears ones that I already have. I'll send them to Mike R
to scan. Then I'll pick a matching 10 from that set. (If we work with
similar sets, the documentation will be easier.)
I'm leaning toward Home Depot. They claim to be in 50 states, DC, PR,
10 provences of Canada, and Mexico. If no one has a problem with this,
I will proceed.
Clyde
I am new to this group as I stumbled upon this great software. I hope to have wonderful and colourful interactions with all of you in the future of now.
Without further ado, here is my first question:
I am new to colour, in the digital sense, and want to use the example colour profile that Mike Russell gave us on his website.
My Photoshop CS, however, complains about this CMYK profile with:
'Could not load the CMYK working space because the profile is not a valid CMYK working space profile'.
I am running Windows XP as my operating system.
Thank you all in advance.
Have a nice day. Jacques

To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Yahoo! Security Centre.
Mike, went to the local Sears store and the color chips in that area were missing. Person responsible said he may have some in a few weeks. I tried the 1-800-PAINTS number you list and they said they did not have chips to send and that they must be obtained from the store.
Looking at the nearby chips in tyhe store, all of them had at least 4 colors per chip. From what I've been reading in the e-mails it sounded as each chip had only one color.
Hi Joe,
That is a disappointment in several ways. Perhaps all the other Curvemeister members got to that particular store first. :-)
If Sears does not turn out to be a reliable source, we may need to turn to another paint brand.
Clyde has done it! After a lengthy search, he has discovered a Sears paint chip that is very close to a dead neutral. If any of you have priced out neutral gray cards, you know they cost a finite amount of money. For example, there is no way I would use my 90 dollar ColorChecker in rainy weather, but a free paint chip is something that I can carry around in my camera bag, and use, abuse, and lose with no regrets.
The paint chip is Sears Easy Living WeatherBeater KK33 (dated 1/05 bottom right corner), You may get this card free at most Sears paint stores. If you cannot access a Sears Store, try calling the US number 1-800-9-PAINTS M-F during working hours and see if they will mail you the KK33 / 2491 card - let the rest of us know how it goes.
You may paste the following values into your pin file and use them as neutral pins. Be sure to replace the <tab> with an actual tab character when doing so.
Although the values are given to two decimals, the actual a and b values are only accurate to plus or minus 1.0 or so. These pins will be available shortly on the Curvemeister page:
For those of you in other countries, or who would like other paint chips scanned, I will do a spectrophotometer scan of any paint chips that are mailed to me, and email you back a pin file containing the Photoshop Lab values.
Clyde is working on other colors as well, and I hope that he will share some of his results here.
Ah, you need to read Dan's latest book: "Photoshop LAB Color"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0321356780/ref=sr_11_1/102-4595112-5985720?%5Fe\
ncoding=UTF8
This will expand on his first book a lot. Mike Russell says that CM is
built on a lot of concepts from Dan's first book. He is obviously
customizing CM to easily use many of the concepts in this new book too.
I do challenge you to try these 10 pins in a landscape photo. You
might be surprised. Dan's LAB techniques for separating close colors
is very useful in landscapes. Almost all landscape shots have a lot of
close colors in browns, greens, and/or blues. You can really make a
picture "pop" by using these techniques.
By starting from correct colors around the whole LAB wheel, the
separation and saturation techniques become easier. You get absolutely
no color shifts while you are doing it. You also seem to get better
color separations in all hues. Really!
So, take some shots of a nice landscape. Include a neutral gray in
some shots for a pin from that. Also include the 10 Sears paint chips.
You don't have to have those in the picture; you can just take a
picture in the same light.
Then go back to Photoshop and CM. First adjust the picture in your
normal manual ways. Then adjust the 2nd version with CM's highlight,
shadow, and neutral. (You may need to save the curve from the picture
with the neutral chip in it and apply it to the picture you are
working on.)
For the 3rd version, pin the 10 (or 9) colors and save that curve.
Then apply it to the same picture as before. I think you will be
surprised with the results. You will really see the differences when
you start pushing the saturation up with the techniques in Dan's new book.
I bet your landscapes will pop better and be a better color with
version 2. They will probably be even better with version 3. Try it
and see. The worst that could happen is that your photographs will be
better.

If you read Dan Margulis' book "Professional Photoshop", he explains a lot
about reading CMYK/RGB values. Not all foliage, for example, is the same
green, but it varies more in luminance than in actual color variation. If
you compare known values to a picture that is "off", you can often see the
deficient color by examining the plate values.
I use a known flash temperature when shooting indoors. My camera "knows"
the color of that light and, coupled with it's AWB, manages to come
extremely close to "right on". Anything else is easily tweaked in Photoshop
if need be.
Wedding shots should be right, especially if the dress isn't pure white.
But then, only the bride and photographer would know that. Landscapes are
quite different because so many of them are "interpreted" rather than
"reproduced".
