Dear Friends

There has been a few questions on this forum about the new IT Act
amendments.

As has already been posted here, the copy of the ITA 2000 as amended
by the amendments vide Information Technology Amendment Act 2006 which
were themselves amended by Information Technology Amendment Bill 2008
(Referred to as ITA 2008 by me) and passed by the Loksabha on December
22nd and Rajyasabha on December 23rd is available at
http://www.naavi.org

Several articles analysing the provisions are also available.

More importantly, a comparative picture of ITA 2000 and ITA 2008 as
well as ITA 2006 (ITA 2000 as proposed to be amended by ITA Bill 2006)
and ITA 2008 are also available on the site for those who want to
analyse the changes.

I have also invited analytical articles so that we can consolidate the
views in one place under the banner of ITA Amendments Analysis forum.

In particular, I would like all of you to comment on what safeguards
are required to be ensured now in the rules since the time for
debating the provisions is over.

For example, I have proposed a National Netizens Commission (or
authority or an advisory board) to take care of the requirements for
prevention of abuse of powers conferred on the Government by the Act
under sections 69,69A and 69B in particular. I have also proposed
state level Cyber Law Advisory boards. There could be many more such
suggestions which we can throw up and hope the Government will
implement something out of these suggestions.

The intelligentsia has remained complacent over the last three years
when the amendments have been under process and hopefully will realize
atleast now that they need to act.

Naavi
