Hi there, truly a fantastic piece of software, but there's one feature I would
pay through
the nose for: h264 encoding.
I presume that the server is based (in part) on the VLC core, and seeing as you
can
transcode to a different audio/video bitrate in MPEG2 (and deinterlace) it
shouldn't be too
hard to enable a transcode to one of VLC's other codecs.
My reasoning for a h264 transcode is (I bet you didn't see this coming)
streaming to my
iPod Touch (obviously, iPhone would work identically). Not only would could
people watch
TV on their Touches/iPhones an h264 stream would be significantly better quality
for a
similarly sized file.
The only problem would be that older macs wouldn't be able to transcode at 1:1
speed
(and hence using this codec would be useless) but elgato's turbo.264 *could*
help
alleviate that (I don't know how they work as I don't have one... yet :P).
If you have the cross-codec transcode already implemented, or if you're planning
it please
let me know! Watching TV on portable devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, PSP) would be
fantastic!
Thanks Again,
JP
