Im not exactly sure what Control base is , but Wnd is the most basic
compoment. If you just need a basic Window then this should do.

I could do the math.d file real easily (just remove it's dependencies.
But dig opengl depends on canvasGL which depends on control. You'd need
to derive that from your control base (what is your base control?)

I would like to, but (as I've said before) I've got this uni-project (my
thesis) with a deadline attached (infact I've already had one
extension). Luckly I get to use D (it uses D, it's not about D) and
openGL in it, my two favorite programming things. Gotta keep the rest
of the details under wraps for now (until I've really got something to
show for it).

Fixing Dig, I believe is easier then integration. To fix it I just need
to see what has changed in D, but integration, I'll need to understand
Dig->openGL which could take longer. That's not to say that if I'm
every in the mood, I won't look in to it ;)

The only reason I maintain dig is that it has good openGL support.
Therefore, personally, I can't use Windy. You should probably try to
adopt some of the dig files, such as the math.d (it's not related to
GUI, but is to openGL) one would be very easy to port. Use the version
I provided in the newest update of dig as it has some changes.

Are you running go from C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\dig_dmd077?
dig should be at c:\dig. If you can't change that then your going to
have to find all the references. Also make sure that you didn't do a
flat directory install with your un-zip program.

ie -It should be like this
c:\dig\go.bat
c:\dig\net\BurtonRadons\digc

Otherwise,

Humm, dig still compiles and runs fine for me (in .78). I think it's
good to keep it up to date, otherwise you'll get left behind with the
changes and won't know how to fix it.

It's impossible for me to fix these errors as I can't reproduce the errors.

You should look into Windy. It doesn't support openGL and I haven't
tried it, but if it's a GUI your after.

When I was using dig a few months ago I was having all sorts of problems
when it WAS compiling , and since its no longer maintained , I think we
should start using Windy ( www.atari-soldiers.com/windy.html ) . Its not
complete , but it is usable and Im finishing up the docs atm. There are
some examples on how to use it in the /examples sub dir. Ill be hitting it
hard on the last half of this month , but mostly the interface will remain
the same , just adding controls and MDI support.

Installed dmd0.78.
The newly compiled digc now generates another error:

<protocol>
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\dig_dmd077>make install
c:\dmd\bin\digc -unittest net\BurtonRadons\digc\strip.d -
version=dstripcopy -exe
=c:\dmd\bin\dstripcopy -unittest -O -inline

------------------------------------------------------------
Program c:\dmd\bin\dstripcopy
Searching source for imports.
Error: net\BurtonRadons\digc\strip.d: invalid handle
</protocol>

I think searching for errros is a waist of time as long as dmd ist in
alpha state.

So long.

We really need to get a project repository going dont you think ? I
have a site that was never completed at
http://wxcode.sourceforge.net/ , we could rip most of the code from
that , and start a new site ?

Would anyone be interested in that ?

>Error: Access Violation

Hmmm. I don't know what the problem is either. (It still works fine for me
when I try to compile.) It's failing for you when digc is compiling the
stripping program, but I don't know why. I don't think the stripping
program is used anywhere else in the makefile these days, so you could just
comment out these lines in the makefile...

Find this (watch out for word-wrap):
$(DMDBINDIR)\dstripcopy.exe: digc $(DIGCDIR)\strip.d
     $(DIGCBASE) $(DIGCDIR)\strip.d -version=dstripcopy
-exe=$(DMDBINDIR)\dstripcopy -unittest -O -inline

dstripcopy: $(DMDBINDIR)\dstripcopy.exe

and turning it into this (beware of word-wrap):
# $(DMDBINDIR)\dstripcopy.exe: digc $(DIGCDIR)\strip.d
# $(DIGCBASE) $(DIGCDIR)\strip.d -version=dstripcopy
-exe=$(DMDBINDIR)\dstripcopy -unittest -O -inline

dstripcopy:
     @echo Skipping dstripcopy...
# $(DMDBINDIR)\dstripcopy.exe

Also, you could try "starting over". Go to c:\dmd\bin and delete or rename
these files (if they're there): digc.exe, dstripcopy.exe, timerun.exe,
dfilter.exe. Also delete or rename:
net\BurtonRadons\dig\common\baseDirectory.d.

I don't know if either of these suggestions will help. Unfortunately,
"Access error" could be many things. It could be a faulty printf statement.
It could be any number of things. Like Anderson said, a good way to find
it is probably to use printf's all over the place until you find out where
the error is occurring.

Maybe some of this will help.

Sounds like a platform problem.
Sorry, but you'll probably need to chuck in a load of printf's and find
the exact function/line that is causing the problem in digc. And then
report back here which line.

Alternatively, you can try replacing digc with my version and the remove
copy digc.exe c:\dmd\bin out of the make file.

Yes. I have D in c:\dmd and make in c:\dm.

Sorry for the inconvenience not to include the protocol of the run.

Here is the path:

Personally I did the same at first for D (using f: my programming
drive), but I got frustrated with all the relative paths using c: that I
changed it.

It's simply a problem with your command line entry.

C:\dmd\bin\dmd.exe -g -debug -IC:\dig dig.lib diggl.lib OPENGL32.LIB
ADVAPI32.LIB SHELL32.LIB GDI32.LIB COMCTL32.LIB
-odc:\whatever\filename -offilename.exe "c:\whatever\filename.d"

With DIDE, use these settings.

DIDE Settings->Add->c:\dig
Project Settings->Linker
Settings->dig.lib,diggl.lib,OPENGL32.LIB,ADVAPI32.LIB,SHELL32.LIB,GDI32.LIB,COMC\
TL32.LIB

(I use DIDE to)

BTW: You have to make a project in DIDE to use this, single
compilation doesn't work.

Hi there
I have just installed the latest dig.

I ran "go.bat" and It installed perfectly as far as I
can see.
All the programs that came with dig run perfectly.

But when I try to compile the sample from this URL
(which needs to be updated for the latest version)
http://www.opend.org/dig/index.html

I get an error:
Error: Error reading file
'net\BurtonRadons\dig\main.d'

Im running WinXP pro.

BTW Im am trying to compile this with "DIDE"

any help would be appreciated, Im real keen
to start using Dig and D.

Phill.

Without seeing any error message to hint at the problem, I'm also
inclined to guess the problem is due to paths or drives.

When Burton released dig at opend.org, he never included any binaries.
That strategy leads to smaller downloads, but I was always frustrated
when I couldn't get it to compile on own machine. It sounded cool
from the description, but I didn't know what the results looked like.

I'm wondering now after looking at
net\BurtonRadons\dig\common\baseDirectory.d if the compiled digc.exe
contains a reference to the base drive it was compiled with. (I hope
not.) I like to store dig and dmd on the D: drive:
d:\dig
d:\dmd

For what it's worth, I change the makefile back to C: before I upload
the files because most D programmers probably keep everything on there.

JC

That should be
c:\dmd (D)
c:\dm (make)

By no fault of your own ;) the discriptions you give is difficult to
work from. I've only tried it on winXP.

What paths are you using? go (make) is set to use these paths.

c:\cmd (D)
c:\dim (make)
c:\dig
Also make sure you have the DM linker (I forgot this one time even
though I was sure I had it).

In otherwords are you sure it's compiling. This is what you should see
when running go (well unless JC's change the make).

If you want to try to debug it yourself. Just start at the digc main
file and put printf's everywhere, from the program entry point (digc.d)
using a kinda binary search.

I'll add the my digc.exe binary to the files list on yahoo.

I downloaded it, but cannot run the precompiled executables.

Starting go.bat compiled and installed digc.exe, but digc.exe itself
crashed at the next command with "error: access violation".

I am running dmd0.77 on Win98SE.

So long.
