Please indulge me. This is a test of the how we would forward a Dennis picture
back to a list server.
Let me know how it comes through.

There are several ways we can use DAHLIAS and DAHLIA-NET.
Use your browser and go to http://www.onelist.com. From the menu on the
left choose: User Center. Enter your e-mail address and password. You
will see 'List' and either 'dahlia-net' or 'dahlias' or both depending
on which ones you have subscribed.
You will see the dahlia-net has 134 members and dahlias has 35 (as of
1/20/98). You can view the archives select 'no mail', 'digest', etc.
Evidently you can not view an attachment from the archived message. As
someone has previously noted you can set digest and at the close of each
day ONELIST will combine all of that days message into one message. You
will receive one message, a little late, without any attachments.
*** Apparently only the list manager can see the archived messages. I have
tried and so far have not found that option available to me. Also how many
members are subscribed is not available to me. I mistakenly clicked on
digest mode and so have not received any of those wonderful pictures. If
anybody has any extra time. Which seems to in short supply around here
these days. I would really like to see the flame that was just discussed.

Francois, you are nuts if you think that the climate in central Maryland is
similar to that in Montreal. We can go 2 months with the temperature never
dropping below 70 degrees, and often the heat index at 11 p.m. is around
100 degrees. Many dahlias fry in our typical mid summer weather. You
should investigate Love's Flame, BB LC Fl. It can be excellent in a cool
climate. Alan Fisher
OK. I made the sign up. Now can somebody send me the pictures I missed?
I read the comments that were made and now I'm aching to see those

Francois, that is gorgeous! But if I get one more flame colored dahlia my
hubby will go on strike and stop doing most of the REAL labor in the garden.
I grew Karen Louise a couple of years ago. I liked it but it was not show
quality. Perhaps I just did not grow it well.
Marilyn
I saw a few messages on flame-colored laciniated dahlias and couldn't help
responding because they are my favorites.
Alan, I have many of Cyril Higgo's dahlias: Pee Gee, Nargold, Nenekazi,
Morgenster, Irisel... and they all do very well in our climate (which must
be pretty similar to the one you have). Of the bunch, my favorite is Irisel.
Maybe not the best form, but what a terrific blend of colors!! And it is
very floriferous.
I also plan to purchase either Pineland's Pam/Pal. The picture on the cover
of Connell's catalog is really beautiful. On my Laciniated list for next
summer are the following:
Top Honor
Kaiwera Gold
Karen Louise
Urchin
Morning Star
Normandy Orange Fluff
Anybody care to comment on some of the above??
I also would like to "express" myself by sending my first picture on this
new dahlia forum. It is Irisel. After you see it, you will want it!! (unless
you hate flame LC)

In addition to Creekside Volcano and Pinelands Pam (Marilyn Walton),
consider Love's Flame. In a cool climate, this BB LC Fl can be outstanding.
Very few LC dahlias have done well in our area (central Maryland). Jennie
and My Beverly have been the most successful so far, although I have
high hopes for Creekside Volcano. For some reason, most of the Higgo
stock seems not to like conditions in my garden, although the Thomas family
have brought sensational blooms of Nargold to our shows. I had 3 starts
of Nargold, from both roots and plants, and all died last year. Alan Fisher

We had Pinelands Pam in the Tacoma Trial Garden last year but I have not
seen Creekside Volcano except in a picture.
The main difference that I see is that PP has yellow coming
much further up the petals. CV seems much darker and very
"plush".
I'm going to grow and try showing PP this year. I'll let you know how it
works out for me! I just adore most FLAME
dahlias. Oh and also purple.... and I like the reds... oh gee....
I guess I like most all colors!

You may note the the TO: address of some members have both 'dahlias' and
'dahlia-net'. This way you can send a message to both. (When sending a
message place both addresses by separating with a comma, using
CC:(carbon copy) or whatever you e-mail software prescribes.)
We will find our if there is a need for two 'lists' i.e., Graphic and
NonGraphic. Also after Dennis' cooling-off week the two lists may be
combined. In any case the dissemination of dahlia information will
benefit.

This is supposed to be the largest straight cactus dahlia
extent. I originally scanned this at 2 meg. Ooops. Now I
have to see if I can get the image attached here. The
colour is buff in the garden; the picture brings out the
other tones well.

Thanks for sending the inaugural photo for new list.
Now, there's a dahlia to make your heart leap if I ever saw one. Do you
have pix of Hy Heart or Hy Mom that you mentioned? I'm curious.

Pinelands Pam is a beauty. It seems quite similar to Creekside Volcano, which
I grew this year and liked very much. Any comments from others as to how they
compare?

Subject: [dahlias] Pinelands Pam
Just switched over. Actually still have both but as usual I was just
a little late to see the picture of Pinelands Pam. Could someone
re-post picture since with my limited PC knowledge, I just can't
seem to find the archieve section. Oh wait, it just started TO-DAY.

Yes Jim, Pinelands Pam is available from Connell's in
Tacoma.
We have a dahlia club meeting tonight and are viewing the
ADS 1999 introductions slides. Hope I don't see too many that I just HAVE
to have!

Nice one Marilyn,
It has the deep laciniations that allow the petal parts to almost touch.
This adds a lot to the overall globular effect.

That is gorgeous Don,
Thanks.
Is the greenish tinge in some of the petals quite true? Haven't yet had
the pleasure of seeing this one live.

Thanks for taking this step Stuart - though I do not yet post pictures,
I may well do so down the line and appreciate the chance as well to see
the efforts of others.
