Brought a Fisher 400 inside today, putting it on the variac tonight.
CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN unit. I'll make sure to bring it to the meet. I
have some 500's and a couple 800's also. The 400 just caught my eye,
so I chose to start on it.
Cheers,
Russ

Looking for an old stereo console. I don't care if it's completely
gutted either. I doesn't matter if it has the amp / speakers, I've
got a funky project in mind.
Let me know if you have one, or know someone that does.
Cheers,
Russ
Hello folks, We've had some good meetings, including the latest
Bottlehead which was in our area. That was held on a Saturday and
several members have said it would be easier to make a meeting on
Saturday instead of Thursday nights. So I think the next meet should
be on a Saturday. Whaddya you guys think? Maybe October 2nd? Russ has
volunteered to host. If that doesn't work out, I can do it. Please
don't feel shy about offering to host. That should keep things fresh
and interesting for everyone. jim...

Hello Music and Audio dudes and dudettes,
The next DAC meeting is this Saturday at Russ' house. Metting time
will be from noon until............ Because this is our
first "weekend" meeting, our hope is that the Ft. Worth, Cleburn,
Denton, Terrel?, etc. members will be able to attend. As well as the
Thursday regulars. Bring some interesting music, gear and good cheer.
I know I'm probably forgetting someone on this list so let me know or
let THEM know. See you then. Map below. jim...
Russ Gates' address is.... 5801 Hidden Pine Lane, McKinney Texas 75070
My cell is 214-287-7476, for questions, directions, etc.
In a nutshell, I-75 north to the Eldorado exit (39 I
believe). 'Loop' around and head WEST. 6 or 7 lights. You'll pass
a 7-11, a Kroger, and come to the intersection of Lakeforest and
Eldorado. AT that intersection, you will see a Chevron on the
northwest corner, and Shell station on the southeast corner.
Take your SECOND left after said intersection. The Street is
Woodson. If you get to a CVS Pharmacy you've gone too far, turn
around. First street you come to is Hidden Pine, I'm RIGHT on the
corner and
The 'man cave' rig will be the same, but I'm working on a couple
suprises for you guys in the living room. Lets see if I can pull it
off in the next 4 days.
There will be tons of options, as always, and I'm happy to be
the 'roadie' and plug in whatever you like.
Cheers,
Russ
Thanks Russ for having us over and hosting the meet. All three rooms
sounded fine. I enjoyed the music and company and look forward to the
next meeting. Max your cat must be the real music lover in your
house. He was always in the sweet spot. 8:-) jim...
Always a pleasure to have you guys over, fingering my gear, eating my
food, and drinking my booze.
Fun times, looking forward to the next one!
Cheers,
Russ

driving a Scott Nixon tube output DAC.
At least one turntable will be in operation in at least one system...
A Denon AC Direct Drive with Shure V15 or a Music Hall MMF-7 with
high output moving coil.
A modified Dynaco PAS phono stage with no electrolytics in the B+.

Rotel DAC/switcher that handles most non Redbook CD based digital.
This would include HDTV, DTV, DVD, DAT, computer stored music coax
fed to the DAC.

preamps / phono stages, SACD and DACs that may be brought by guests

before the meeting. Come one, come all and have a good listen. jim...
Jim
I'm looking forward to the meeting.
Looks like you have some nice toys to play with.
Actually, pretty serious stuf since you built most of
it.
I'll need directions as I don't know where you live.
I finally got my email working again so I'm
re-connected to the world. ($&)(#*w^R VIRUSES

You can copy and paste the tiny url at the bottom and it will
magically turn into a Yahoo map or just use my directions below. See
you Thursday night. jim...
2107 Scarlet Oak Dr , Richardson , Texas 75081 homephone 972 470

Verbal directions are... go north on 75 and take the Belt Line exit
in Richardson and turn right (east) on Belt Line or Main St (they are
the same street) At that corner it is less than four miles, traveling
east, to Jupiter Road. You turn left (north) on Jupiter and go about
100 yards to just over a bridge to the first left which is Ponderosa.
On Ponderosa you turn almost immediately right on the first street,
Mistletoe. Going north on Mistletoe, you will turn left on Scarlet
Oak and I'm the third house on the right.

Thanks to North Texas Audio Jam at http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/
and 'everyone' involved. You know who you are. Things are coming
together in North Texas for audio DIYers and "regular" audio dudes
and dudettes. After inviting The Jam and The DAC, 26 folk filled my
house last night. 27 including my poor wife who tried to keep food
and drink on the table. Good music and good conversation was alive
and well. I hope a good time was had by all. I certainly enjoyed the
bash. So much so that I forgot to take photos till late in the
meeting. Photos will be posted here later today. Two tube audio
systems were in use and a couple of guys brought their DIY tube and
speaker projects. The only disappointment was I didn't get a chance
to talk a lot with each person. Can't wait for the next music bash.
There was one jacket and one cooler left behind. Darn! No one left
any CDs or records. When I came up with the DAC club idea, one of my
goals was to find and enjoy good music I was unaware of. Remember the
good old days when you could find interesting music on FM? We are a
diverse group with a loose or non existant set of club rules. Maybe
each person that hosts a meeting should lay out HIS (or HER) rules
for THAT meeting. My point being that I most want to learn of and
listen to new music more and do less swapping and switching out of
gear. The next host may want to try lots of cable, speakers, amps,
etc. Most all of us are probably open to some degree of both. When
you host, let us know your special interests and "rules". jim...
Well, I meant to say. Novemeber 11th meeting. jim...

Future hosts will have their choice of the day (or night) of their
meeting. Several guys have asked me to host on Saturday or Sunday
because of their long drive time and work schedules. I understand the
problem but Russ held a Saturday meeting and only one long distance
member made the meet. The only solution I see is for that month's
host to choose what's best for him. Tentative for December is a
meeting hosted by Nelson Spence. jim...
We are half way to our limit on Photos storage. At some tome in the
future, I will start pulling photos. Starting with the oldest
meetings first. I'll probably leave one intersting photo from each
meeting. If anyone wants to copy and save any olders photos, now
might be a good time to do so. jim...
I want to thank Jim for having us over to his house. A good time was
had by all. Please edit out my midsection in the next round of
photos.
Thanks,
John S.
Scott Nixon DAC with "homemade" chassis, built from one of his kits.
Here is a nice looking kit project done by an email pal who lives out
of state. His comments are quoted below. Since at least 6 Dallas
Audio Club members have Scott's DACs, tube or SS, I thought I'd share
this photo. I've one on order, my third and first kit version, but
may not show the insides when finished. It probably won't be as nice
as Larry's. 8:-) jim...
Larry says... "Digital made a big sonic step upwards with the
addition of this DAC in my system It is copper that I had shaped at a
metal shop, I did some brazing and drilling and then had it powder
coated. The front and back are veneered with African mahogany which I
also did."
Nice job! I found the same thing with the Scott Nixon DAC. I've
found it unnecessary to buy a pricey CD player because the SN tube
dac with a mid fi Marantz player as the transport beats the $1K
players I have heard. Currently using it in a system with DK Designs
hybrid integrated and Maggie 3.6's. Picture of the one I built at
