A quick google search shows that browseblast does use a filter, which
is likely dansguardian. If you don't like that, uninstall browseblast.

I DID give Jim all that information and he helped me with it.  I found that it
came from my supplier (dixieconnect) but thy're giving me the run-around now.
I plan to get rid of them as soon as I can get the problem fixed!

thanks for your reply!

David, you DO have more information, and you CAN be more precise. Take a look at
Jim's comments and you'll see references to several important pieces of
information which YOU have, and we do NOT.

Things like:

1. Who owns this computer?
2. Where is it used?
3. What is your operating system? (Windows, MAC, Linux, etc.)
4. Who else has access to it?
5. etc.

Start *thinking* about what might matter, what might help, give us the info, and
we'll try to help you. Otherwise, see your local computer shop. They will love
you.

Do you take your car into a shop and just tell them, "It makes a noise!"? Or do
you tell them a bit more than that?

Give us some help, if you want help. Make the effort to tell us your story, or
we can't help you.

Nor is there any reason for us to bother trying!

Dear John,

Can you direct me get the dansguardian work with ldap

I have set something like this text on squid.conf to get the squid work with
ldap

auth_param basic program /usr/lib/squid/ldap_auth -b dc=andhikaup,dc=com -f
uid=%s 192.168.0.101

And it's work on squid on port 3128

also the dansguardian work on port 8080
than how to get the dansguardian work to authenticate with ldap as the squid
did??

Thanks,
Andhikaup

Hi All,

I am trying to setup a whitelist. DG running on Debian. I have a filter group
which has the bannedsitelist set to ** (i.e. blanket block). I have then set up
a greySITElist (capitalisation mine) to except whole sites and this is working.

I would like to execpt a specific URL for a site NOT on a grey/exception
sitelist . I placed this in the exceptionurllist file or the greyurllist but it
does not work.

I am trying to access a google calender fixed link URL.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you

I have tried with bbc website and the exception urllist is working. The problem
is either google or the fact that the google site needs a https at the
beginning.

Any workarounds?

so i put them both in the banned site (domain) list in DG, but aol.com still

has anyone dealt with this problem? seems like a big hole if aol can't be
blocked, or have safesearch enforced. paying for an off the shelf solution
isn't an option for us.

anyone?

Look to see if you have something that partially matches "aol" that may be
overriding the block.

For anyone else searching how to do this here are some factoids:

Dansguardian and Squid (using ACLs such url_regex) can't resolve the URL after
the domain name if https is used. So filtering for https is just based on the
domain.

There is a workaround which is frowned upon, it involves something called MiTM
(Man In The Middle) if you are intersted in setting such a thing up here are two
links:

http://jez4christ.com/view/decrypting-ssl-protected-web-traffic-for-further-anal\
ysis-poc/

http://dvas0004.wordpress.com/2011/03/22/squid-transparent-ssl-interception/

A pity DG can't do this (whitelist by https url) out of the box.

A lot of schools are using sites.google.com which uses https hence limiting the
website to a particular site is currently not possible via squid/DG.

Perhaps something for the future?

That's interesting. I'm guessing that filtering the 3G interface would require
rooting the device. :-(

Getting DG to filter both 3G and Wifi on Android would be spectacular.

Really just a proof of concept, as it is easy to subvert currently without some
sort of lock down on the Wifi proxy settings. Not sure how you set a proxy for
the 3G interface.

I'm pretty sure you'd need to root for any filtering of any interface. Throw in
WiMAX on a Sprint phone and now you've got up to 4 different interfaces to
filter; 1x (CDMA), WiFI, 3G (EVDO), and 4G (WiMAX).

Hi,

I have a small schools server at my hands and trying to set up a good web
contents filter there.
The server is an opensuse 11.3 LTSP server, so very few remote computers
connecting to the network.

I have downloadedthe DansGuardian package via Yast, but trying to find a good
tutorial on the config part - no luck yet. Every how-to is over 5 years old and
the latest found for suse is for suse 9.

Any hint would be appriciated.

The Dansguardian conf seems to be pritty straight forward but Squid seems a bit
more complicated.

Sincerely,

DB

Hello

I am using Dansguardian on my homenetwork. But since Google have changed
their image site, DG cant filter that properly. I believe the way to fix
this is to get google images back from standard to basic version. This
should be possible by using the regexplist to modify the url. The link below
tells what is needed in the url. I just dont know how to compose it. What is
also needed is to force google very safe search. that one I have[?].

The link:
http://techie-buzz.com/image-tools/get-back-the-old-google-image-search-with-a-u\
rl-trick.html

and the regex that works for very safe search:

"safe=off"->""
"(^http://[a-z]*\.google\.[a-
z]*/[a-z]*\?)"->"\1safe=vss&"

Thanks!

Kind Regards
Lars

I am pretty sure this is relevant to most DG users since google images is
not filtered properly.

The link that tells what need to be in the url:

I perused the mailing-list archives and found a few threads regarding
logging to a database; however, I am interested in storing rules and w/b
lists in a database. The ultimate goal is to be able to edit
lists/rules and not have to reload dg everytime. In addition, it would
be nice to be able to cleanly build a simple web-based configuration
interface.

I think this is definitely a modification worth pursuing.
As far as I know there is no support for this kind of configuration.

Daniel posted this back in March and I am greatly looking forward to it.

============================================================================
==============

This year I am going to be making some changes for the better for DG.

1. I've been persuaded by the marketing department at Smoothwall that the DG
website needs a lick of paint and some proper management and a content
management system. The form of this change is not yet decided so I'll keep
you posted as the plan matures. Package maintainers: the URLs to download
are likely to change but I will give plenty of notice before that happens.

2. Submissions for DG such as bug fixes or feature additions take* FAR TOO
LONG* to get added to DG, if ever. The reason is that it gets done by a
Smoothwall developer when there is time, which is never. (I delegate all DG
development and have done for a long time now). So instead I'd like to make
DG more open and take on an integration manager from the DG users community.
  They would have read/write on the revision control repository (which we may
change to git instead of svn) and eventually ability to make new releases.
  They will be responsible for maintaining quality and vetting submissions.
  Sorry this is an unpaid job. One of the distribution package maintainers
would be a likely candidate or perhaps one of the other contributors. They
will also handle issues such as copyright and licensing; DG2 is GPLv2 so
they need to check the status of submissions to ensure no license clashes.
  And all the other usual integration manage jobs. This is really good
news! I wish I had thought of it sooner. Do not volunteer - yet. I will
announce when I am ready to find one later this year.

3. There is a huge backlog of features/bug fixes/etc which have been
submitted by people including Smoothwall developers which has not made it to
release. We will be getting round to that before we hand over to an
integration manager from the DG users community.

The swirling rumours of a DG3 are I am afraid wishful thinking at this
point. DG3 is no more. Despite talking about it for years and even a
closed-source alpha existing. DG2 will be continued to have features and
bug fixes for the foreseeable future. All the development work on on DG3
(which was 100% done by Smoothwall employed developers) has been moved in to
a different Smoothwall project as part of their commercial product.
  Guardian will be taking separate commercial and Open Source paths.

I am sorry I am unable to regularly read the DG mailing list. I simply
don't have the time.
============================================================================
=======================

Once he has opened the source for us to manage it I believe we could take on
this kind of configuration path.
Many open source projects support a conf/mysql configuration and I do not
see why we couldn't do the same here.

Put the following line in the /etc/dansguardian/lists/urlregexplist file.

"(google.com/)(.*)"->"\1\2&sout=1"

I think that should work for you. Any other comments / feedback from others
welcome, though.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi

It didn´t work for me.

But I am closing in on it....[?]

However there are some problems with it. You can only see page 1. When
trying to view page 2 it turns back to a blank search field. And I can
manually remove *&sout=1* in the url.

It looks like this:

"(^http://
[0-9a-z]+\.google\.[a-z]+[-/%.0-9a-z]*/search\?)(.*)(&?)(safe=[^&]*)"->"\1\2\3"
"(^http://
[0-9a-z]+\.google\.[a-z]+[-/%.0-9a-z]*/search\?)"->"\1safe=vss&[-/%.0-9a-z]&sout\
=1"

Any ideas????

what file shall I use for blocking just the image belonging to a bad url.
right now the the whole site is blocked but only if there is a bad phrase.

Kind Regards
