What's New in v3.6
==================

*   Now allows multiple search/replace pairs to be specified. This
     is very handy for document translators, or for applying a range
     of replacements. Each pair can have their own settings. Multiple
     rows can have their settings updated in one action.
*   Search/replace pairs can be imported from Excel, CSV or Tab-
     delimited files, or loaded at run time dynamically from Excel,
     CSV or Tab-delimited files. This means you can use your favorite
     program to maintain the search/replace list and then import it
     into WordPipe as required.
*   Double clicking on filename fields opens the file in its
     associated program.
*   A password for 'Open' can optionally be entered. This can be
     useful if you use the same password across a range of documents.
*   New command line options for unattended operation.
*   New Replace Once, and Find Only options.

What's New in v6.6.2
====================

*   New filter supporting search/replace lists. The lists can either
     be specified in a grid, or they can be loaded dynamically from
     Excel, CSV or Tab-delimited file formats at run-time.
*   Changed menu structure to make it easier for new users. Removed
     some icons from the toolbar.
*   New File Grid context menu option to copy 100 Kbytes to the
     Trial Run Area.
*   The file list now supports multiple file specifications
     separated by semi-colons eg c:\INetPub\*.html;*.txt;*.htm
*   The Split Files filter can now control how the output files are
     named.
*   Subtract entries in the file list are now shown in red, and
     Ignore entries (comments) shown in grey.
*   The filter tree view now supports Cut, Copy and Paste clipboard
     operations. There is also an undo action for the current filter.
     Filters can also be pasted into any application as a text
     export.
*   The Script filter now uses a Syntax highlighting editor to
     display VBScript, JScript, VBA, PerlScript and PythonScript
     code. It also allows separate default scripts to be saved for
     each language.
*   Unicode maps can now be loaded from and saved to Excel/CSV/Tab
     formats. Unicode filters are now far faster and can deal with
     undefined characters - such as removing them, replacing them
     with a custom string, sending them to a VBScript sub filter for
     specialized processing, or allowing them to pass through
     unchanged.
*   CSV and Tab-delimited files with CR/LFs embedded in fields are
     now handled correctly. New restriction filters can be used to
     remove the embedded CR/LFs.
*   CSV and Tab-delimited restricted filters can now remove the
     comma or tab field delimiters and the surrounding quotes to make
     it easier for sub filters to work with field data. Each field's
     data can now be processed individually rather than as a
     concatenation of field data.
*   Byte map lines where the output is different to the input are
     now shown in yellow. Byte maps can now scroll directly to the
     character you press on the keyboard - which makes finding
     mappings easier.
*   In the audit log, merge file filters now summarize the changes
     made by filters that follow them in the filter list. Split file
     filters also summarize the changes made.
*   New command line options /CLEARCOMMENTS, /CLEARFILTERS,
     /SAVEFILTER, /LOGENABLE, /LOGMODE, /LOGTHRESHOLD,
     /PREPAREFILTERFORDISTRIBUTION,  /SAVEFILTER, /PLAYSOUND.
*   When loading a list of commands from a command file with
     /Z=<command file name>, comments can now be included in the file
     using a leading ';'.
*   Speed improvements for the GUI and for filter execution.
*   Audit logging now shows status for more filters including
     Scripts and Maps. The audit log text shown for search/replace
     filters now matches what is shown on the screen for ease of
     reference.
*   Various COM scripting changes to support new features, and to
     allow DataPipe to set the current directory.
*   Perl patterns now support UTF-8.
*   Convert end-of-lines filter now handles Mainframe CMS V- and F-
     format files (downloaded to PC in EBCDIC format).
*   Upgraded to PCRE 4.3 pattern matching library.
*   Added warning message that not all filter types can be exported
     to the command line.
*   Tips and Wizard dialogs now allow filters being double clicked
     on from Windows Explorer to be loaded.
*   Tips and Wizard are only shown if a filter hasn't been
     automatically loaded.
*   Run Time version now disables sound by default and does not show
     a tray icon.
*   Added Exit Codes depending on the highest level of error logged.
*   New /EXPORTFILTERTOLOG command line option.
*   Trial Input now preserves Unix EOLs when a file is pasted or
     loaded.

*   Simplified user interface by removing
     1. Comments tab (old comments are now inserted into the filter
     list as the first item)
     2. Forcing the MDI child window to initially appear maximized,
     making it look like a SDI application. The window size can still
     be changed as before
     3. Removed the title that appeared above the properties
     4. Removing the scratch pad tab unless a loaded filter has text
     in the scratch area.

*   When Prompt On Replace is on, it can now be disabled during the

TEXTPIPE RESTRICTIONS - WHAT ARE THEY AND HOW DO I USE THEM?

TextPipe Restrictions are one of its most powerful and unique
features. Put simply, they allow you to control exactly where a text
modification occurs. An example of a restriction could be lines 1 to
10, or columns 3 to 17, or only lines matching a pattern. For
example, if you wanted to perform a search and replace in just the
first header line of a CSV or tab-delimited file, you could do it
like this:

|--Restrict lines:Line 1 .. line 1
|  |
|  +--Replace [old value] with [new value]
|        [ ] Match case
|        [ ] Whole words only
|        [ ] Case sensitive replace
|        [ ] Prompt on replace
|        [ ] Skip prompt if identical
|        [ ] First only
|        [ ] Extract matches

(By the way, if you've never seen filters displayed as above, check
out the File Menu\Export Filter to Clipboard option)

Tip: To drag one filter inside another, first add both filters from
the Filter Menu, then drag and drop the lower filter to the RIGHT

it will be added as a sub filter, inside the upper filter.

SPECIAL OFFER - BLACK MAGIC

BlackMagic may be used to colorize Black & White, Sepia, or IR
(infrared) photos. It may also be used to color-correct/re-color

*   Now can search and replace inside the built in document
     properties such as Title, Subject, Author, Company etc, and
     inside custom document properties defined by the user.
*   New search-only version available. In search-only mode, WordPipe
     searches read-only files, and opens them as read-only. This has
     been used to search for security identifiers like TOP SECRET
     etc to check if documents have been saved to the wrong
     location.
*   Now displays a count of the number of changes made in each
     document. Note that this figure can be incorrect because Word
     sometimes counts a change even when none is made.
*   The Replacement list can now be exported to Excel, CSV or Tab
     formats.
*   Speed improvements - Word screen updating is now disabled.
*   Now handles text inside grouped shapes - each individual shape
     is now processed.
*   Now handles shapes (floating) and inline shapes in both the main
     document and in headers and footers.
*   Display of most of Word's message boxes has been disabled.
*   Now replaces hyperlinks inside shapes and inline shapes.
*   Now replaces hyperlinks in the header and footer.
*   Now checks to see if MS Word is still functioning and opens a
     fresh copy if not.
*   Now checks if file still exists before opening it - this
     prevents errors with Word temporary files.
*   Now detects Word 97 and flags an error - Word 97 is too buggy
     for WordPipe to work with.
*   The log data can now be easily copied to the clipboard.

FILTER FOR GOOGLE ADWORDS

If you're using Google Adwords, you may find it tedious to
generate all the broad match, phrase match and exact match terms.
e.g. from
   parse text
you want to generate
   [parse text]  and
   "parse text"

We've designed a filter to assist with this process! Simply
paste all your terms into the Trial Run area, run the filter,
and then Add all the new terms back. The filter also takes care
of removing duplicates, but Google does this as well.

MAKE GLOBAL CHANGES TO A FILTER IN YOUR TEXT EDITOR -
   AND MIGRATE FILTERS TO OLDER TEXTPIPE VERSIONS

It seems that only Power Users have found TextPipe's ability to
export code to VBScript and JScript from the File Menu\Export
function. This is really handy for creating filters on the fly
from within your own programs, or even for running TextPipe
from a simplified web page front end.

And there are other ways to use it too:

Let's say you need to make changes to a large number of TextPipe
filters. You could either do this by hand, or you could
1) File Menu\Export the filter to a .vbs or .js file
2) Edit the code using a text editor (or TextPipe!)
3) Use the modified .vbs or .js code to regenerate the filter
    in TextPipe. To do so, you'll need to add three lines to the
    end of the (.vbs) file:

   vb_connectTextPipe
   vb_TextPipeApp.visible = true
   vb_build_filter( vb_TPWindow )

4) When you double-click on the .vbs file, TextPipe will open,
    build the new filter, and then stay open for you to save it.

You can also use this approach to move a filter to an OLDER
copy of TextPipe. Simply export to .vbs or .js, edit the file back
to the API that the older version expects, then load it up. Note -
you'll need to run the old version prior to double-clicking on
the file, so that the old version registers itself in the registry
in preference to the newer version.

Crystal Software has now been 'reborn' as DataMystic Corporation,
and we hope you like the new name and the changes we're making
to the website. The new name suggests optimism and the 'mystic'
suggests that we can help untangle the mess of data so that you

We have a new release of TextPipe coming out shortly, with new
filters for capturing text and a variety of other enhancements.
We're gradually changing the grids used in the GUI to a new
Unicode-enabled control, which is part of our migration to
Unicode.

CHANGING SPECIFIC OCCURRENCES

Sometimes you want to perform a replacement only when specific
conditions have been met, or according to a calculation. As an
example, we might want to only replace every second (2nd)
occurrence of some found text.

I can't remember the real-life support question that this answers,
so we'll have to make do with this contrived example. Let's say
you have text like this:

   **********************************

and you want to change every second '*' to '-' (yes, I know you
could just replace '**' with '*-').

By adding a subfilter to a Script filter, you can programmatically
control when the subfilter is applied.

Here's how the filter looks:

The key is the use of the TextPipe.subFilterEntireText()
function, which is part of the internal TextPipe automation
object. This object can also be used to log messages, to find
the current filename, to get and set global variables, to display
messages to the user, and to find the current line number and
file offset. If the text to be subfiltered is large, you can
also pass it through the subfilters progressively.

FILE SPLIT BASED ON WORD OR PATTERN

Sometimes you need to do more than split a file based on a
number of lines, an individual character occurring or a byte
count. To split a file based on the location of a word, phrase
or pattern, you can use a token or marker to indicate where
to split the file. Use the following technique:

1. Add a Search/Replace filter that will search for the word,
    phrase or pattern you want to split on.

2. Set the replacement text to
    \xff   - to split on top of the text (and remove it)
    $0\xff - to split after the text is found
    \xff$0 - to split before the text is found

3. Add a Split filter, to split on the character \xff,
    and set the Split Position as for #2.

That's it! All we're doing is inserting a marker character
of ASCII 255 (Hex FF) to tell the split filter where to split.

In TextPipe it looks like this:

     TEXTPIPE 7.4 NEW FEATURES

     Enhancements:

     * New filters for code page conversion.
     * Mainframe copybook wizard is now more flexible in the data it
matches, and
       handles COMP-3 field types, and handles numeric fields with
purely decimals
       (eg V999).
     * New filters for Unicode Compose and Decompose:
       NFC - Canonical Decomposition, followed by Canonical
Composition
       NFD - Canonical Decomposition
       NFKD - Compatibility Decomposition
       NFKC - Compatibility Decomposition followed by Canonical
Composition
       Canonical Compose.
     * Now supports Unicode command line parameters.
     * Now supports single quoted CSV data, quoted tab data, and
backslashes in
       quoted CSV or Tab data. Existing text delimiters are now
preserved on
       conversion between CSV and Tab formats. The EasyPattern
[tabfield] can now
       match quoted tab data.
     * The Restrict to HTML filter can now set the maximum match
size - to match
       very large sections of HTML or XML.
     * When files are dropped, TextPipe defaults files to 'no
subfolders'.
     * Simplified the Trial Run button - now it only performs a trial
run, and does
       not toggle back to the Filters to Apply tab.
     * Encode Hex filter now does not add line feeds.

     Usability enhancements:
     * Clarified examples in perl pattern right-click menus.
     * Right-click option Show Hex Dump now checks if the underlying
field is
       Unicode or not before displaying data. A toggle between UTF16-
LE and UTF16-BE
       is also available.
     * Run External Program filter now reports in the log if the
external program
       has a non-zero exit code. The output file handle is now
released on error.
     * The Unicode Map filter's 'Replace With Value' string now
supports special
       characters such as \t, \r, \n etc.

     Speed Improvements:
     * Speed optimization for interactive search/replace when
[Replace Job] chosen.
     * Reduced memory requirements of Database filter when SELECTing
data sets.

     Bug fixes:
     * XSLT filter now correctly flags modified text - so output
files get created
       when the 'Only Output Modified Files' flag is set. XSLT filter
now reports
       the error code and error reason to the log if an error occurs.
     * Fixed bug with Unicode exact match and Unicode pattern match
where search
       terms were not found.
     * Fixed database filter's handling of VarBinary (BLOB) data.
     * Database filter now handles subfilters correctly for encoding
VarBinary data.
     * Fixed bug when referencing a CSV or Tab search/replace list
where the
       replacement column was missing. A new error message now
provides the line
       number of any errors.
     * Fixed bug with inserting captured text as an HTML table row,
and added the
       ability to insert as an XML record.
     * Fixed bug with Input Filter, Prompt On Binary files setting,
if 'No To All'
       was chosen TextPipe skipped ALL remaining files, not just
binary files.
     * Fixed Unicode display of extended information in the Prompt on
Replace
       dialog. Note: Unicode patterns do not support capturing- only
$0 works.
     * Fixed Map filter not detecting Reset and Clear changes.
     * Fixed mismatch of 16 and 32-bit Unicode strings when
converting from ANSI or
       ASCII/OEM to Unicode and between code pages.
