Hi Everyone,
I'm pleased to announce that we've just uploaded a new version of the
extension to the group. It has a variety of changes, which I'll
describe below.
- Status bar indicators for new links for you and network activity
- Jump to Tag feature (press F2) allows you to quickly access tags and
bookmarks using the keyboard
- General performance and usability enhancements
- Preferences now in a separate dialog under Tools (which also can be
invoked via the prefs button on the FF Add-ons pane)
- FF3 support (like you'd think we'd forget)
Anyway, unlike previous beta releases, we are calling this release an
`alpha' release. Much like the Firefox beta releases, this release is
meant to provide you with a preview of upcoming features. Some of
the features and interface choices are experimental and may change a
lot before we launch, but we're eager to hear your feedback on the
changes, especially if you think we can do certain things better.
Just like with any of the previous prerelease extensions, the
following caveats apply.
- The del.icio.us team has been using this extension daily with no
serious ill effects, but anything can happen, including the loss of
bookmarks and data. We will do everything we can to help you if our
extension somehow chews up your bookmarks, but we can't guarantee success
- Please don't send feedback to our support team- while they will
forward any messages to us, it is much more efficient if you post
messages to the yahoogroup. The entire team will be reading this
during the testing period.
- As the FF3 themes and layout are radically different from FF2 (and
change with each beta release) there are some alignment issues with
the preferences page. We're working on them. Feel free to report any
other UI glitchiness. Also, themes other than the default FF3 theme
can radically change the layout of the extension.
- The registration wizard is disabled for the alpha release. If you
install this extension and are somehow not already a del.icio.us user,
register via the typical web route and you can use the extension.
- This extension has been tested and updated to work with FF3 Beta 5.
As each FF3 beta has changed enough for us to make changes to our
extension, subsequent FF3 releases may have issues. Please report
these, and we will do our best to get updates out ASAP.
- For OS X users on FF3b5, the "Hide Bookmarks Menu" option does not
work, and trying to toggle it back to "Show Bookmarks Menu" will crash
Firefox. Also, using the help menu is unusually slow. We're working
on it.
- Lots of UI things are not necessarily final. You may notice updates
to icons, text (like the missing dots in del.icio.us), and layout
changes which are things we're trying out with this group. We'll do a
more general beta release (with a real announcement) later on but I
wanted to get the feedback and testing from this more focused group first.
With the exception of the registration wizard, this extension should
be fully functional and stable. Lots of code had to be completely
rewritten to support FF3, but our team did a great job to make it
happen. Please let us know if you see anything weird and especially
if you have any feedback that can help us improve the extension.
Thanks for trying it out.
