As a Florida Democrat, in 2000 I learned first hand what it feels like
to participate in a free and open election only to discover that my vote
was never counted. It is damn frustrating. I feel like that again.
Today's Bradenton Herald has an article stating that in Florida's 13th
Congressional District primary the Democratic Congressional Campaign
Committee (the DCCC) supports Christine Jennings over Jan Schneider.
The DCCC is supposed to be impartial in a contested primary. The DCCC
website ( http://www.dccc.org/races/states/fl/ ) lists only one
candidate for that race.
Whether they support Jan or Christine, all Democrats must understand the
frustration over having unseen officials ignoring our right to select
our own candidates. In 2000 we all experienced not having our votes
counted.
Has Rahm Emanual become the Katherine Harris of the Democratic Party?
I urge every Democrat to pick up the phone and call the DCCC at
202-863-1500 ( mailto:dccc@... ). Ask for the Political Director.
Ask them why only one candidate is listed on the DCCC website. Ask them
what action they are planning on taking.
Whichever candidate you support, and even if you do not live in the 13th
District, even if you don't live in Florida, if you care about
preserving democracy and do not want the Democrats turning into
Republican clones, I urge you to call.
Personally, I pledge to support whichever candidate wins the primary. I
just want it to be a fair race.
