Jan Schneider has the best chance of winning the open seat in the Florida 13th Congressional District in 2006! Jan is the only candidate in either party with proven vote-getting ability, proven crossover appeal and long-time Washington experience. She is also the only Democrat with in-depth knowledge of the issues, the only Democrat with a college education, and the only Democrat in recorded memory to win the endorsements of all four major newspapers in the district (as well as the major women's groups, veterans and military leaders, unions, consumer groups, and other activist interests).

In 2004, Jan Schneider handily won the Democratic primary, despite being outspent by a factor of nearly four to one by her nearest rival. As the nominee, Jan held incumbent Congresswoman Katherine Harris to the smallest margin in any Congressional race in Florida. Outspent by ten to one, Jan still captured 45% of the vote in the midst of a Republican landslide - and in a district with roughly 50/30/20% Republican/Democratic/other registration.

In decades, only one other Democratic Congressional candidate has once broken the 40% barrier in the Florida 13th. Jan Schneider has done it twice - and in a less favorable, redistricted FL 13. The time is ripe, and Jan enjoys the best name recognition and appeal to win the open seat!

Certain powers within the DCCC are nevertheless seeking to force selection of "big-money" candidates in defiance of the will of the voters. Such attempts by the Washington "establishment" to dictate local races from inside the Beltway have been shown to be not only futile but counterproductive.

Jan Schneider is a forceful and independent-minded Democrat with a long history of successful efforts on behalf of Democratic values. Jan seeks to become the contemporary Claude Pepper, the leading Congressional advocate for seniors. With regard to veterans and military families, Jan was also active in the formation of a group of "50 Stars" who combined successfully to fight for better healthcare for enlisted personnel during the Clinton Administration. Jan has fought for working families, including advocating a single payer national health insurance system, raising the minimum wage and lowering prescription drug costs for everyone.

A Yale-educated lawyer with a Ph.D. in political science from Yale, Jan Schneider has practiced law, been an international civil servant, and written two books and dozens of articles on environmental protection. She has served as an officer, director and/or counsel for many national and local groups.
