Position Requirements:

* Software Engineer with at least 5 years of development experience
* BS in computer science, engineering, or equivalent required
* Strong C++ skills required and must be documented
* OO software architecture skills required and must be documented
* Formal design process experience required. Experience with FDA
design controls or similar development process (DOD) a strong plus
* Candidate should have either embedded RTOS (VxWorks preferred) or
strong Unix experience
* Mission critical software experience or medical device development a
strong plus
* Strong communication skills and comfortable working in a team
environment expected
* All candidates are required to submit proof of C++ proficiency by
web-based testing. Use brainbench.com, teckchek.com, or proveit.com
* Dot-Net, C#, Java, PHP, HTML, MFC, XML, (heavily experienced windows
developers) are not a good fit and will not be considered



The software framework is object oriented, uses multiple layers of
inheritance, relies on many advanced features in C++, uses state machines,
inter/intra process message queuing, sockets, and shared memory. Therefore,
embedded experience is helpful as foundational experience but strength in
software architecture and C++ is more important than low-level device
skills. Candidates with only "driver" or "kernel" level experience will not
be considered.



The candidate will be adding new features and enhancements to the existing
framework so it will require developing a strong understanding of the
existing system through a study of documentation, experimentation with the
current system, and consulting with engineering staff.



The skill of thorough and patient testing is also important, as a 'run' will
take about 30 - 60 minutes to complete. This is not a device where testing
is short cycled (web development or desktop App). Debugging is mostly done
through log analysis (no debugger). In addition, since our device is
connected to healthy people and we want to keep them that way, a mission
critical software development attitude is absolutely required. It is
imperative for the candidate to have the ability to follow good design
practices and implement well-constructed, bug-free software.



The candidate will be required to work with peer developers, QA, Systems,
Scientific, Clinical, and Customer support groups during the development.
