I'm definitely looking forward to DevHouse boston 3! Any of those
dates would work for me, although the 9th would be best. I'm willing
to help organize or kick in beer :)

We're happy to host the next DevHouse Boston at the Coworking Loft ,
especially since we picked up one full-time coworker and two
part-timers from the last event.
The next step is to pick a date, so I'll figure out some dates which
work for us, and get back to the list shortly.

Seconded -- I heard about this from someone at DevHouse 2, and it
sounds awesome. If you have a 3rd, I'll definitely come. ...If it's
before I move at the end of August anyway. :)

Hi!
Someone I met recently turned me on to the existance of this group.
Are there any current plans for a DevHouse 3? It sounds like lots of fun!
Thanks,
Matt
Speaking for the coworking residents of 13 Magazine, I'd like to thank
everyone who participated. It was an awesome event, and we were proud
to be part of it. You're all welcome back.
I scraped the DHB2 Registrants page for emails to add to the 'Friends
of the Coworking Loft' email list. If anyone here was not on that
list, but would like to receive our low-traffic announcements of
events (read: parties), email me directly (not to this list!) and I'll
add you.
Likewise, anyone who registered for DHB2 but would rather not be on
our invite list, I will be happy to remove you before we send out a
party invitation this Friday.
Again, many thanks to all who made DevHouse Boston 2 awesome,
especially Mike Walsh and Critt Jarvis.

I was there with the mission to finish up the next PyBlosxom release. It wasn't particularly sexy work, but I've been sitting on the release for a while. I've got a little more work to do, but all of the code is currently in the SVN repository:
I fixed up the Paste/WSGI support for the project, fixed a lot of documentation, did some testing, fixed the packaging, ... I'll have a release soon. I left early-ish (3:00 i think), so I didn't get to talk to many people about PyBlosxom.
I also listened to Dan and his partner (whose name escapes me) as they worked on their wiki system which I think they put in a Google Code project. I think it's at:
http://code.google.com/p/wookiewiki/
About 35 showed up during the course of the day. The head count for
lunch was 26.
One Team coded a facebook application that was supposed to find your
ideal match based certain criteria like finding commonalities between
books, movies and having complimentary sexual orientation. The
application kinda worked but had a tendency to recommend the
girlfriend of your best friend. The team consisted of Patrick
Fitzsimmons, Dan Grover, John Yu and Colin Nederkoorn.
Another team coded a mapping application where you could request all
x's within a given distance (e.g. one mile radius) and get the answer
plotted on a Google map. I think the team primary motivation was to
try to learn Ruby in a day. The team consisted of Joshua Nichols,
Philipp Hanes, and Jay Ayers.
Danny Choi and Paul Irish coded a personal wiki they called WookiWiki
(I think) that was based on TiddlyWiki.
Another team coded a web app that would allow Boston Geeks to
recommend geeky events and receive a semi-monthly notification of
upcoming geeky events that met their criteria. This was a Django
application. This team consisted of Shimon Rura, Rod Begbie, Kent
Quirk for coders and Jeff Potter worked on the specification phase.
Paul Ingemi coded a java game application to run on the iPhone even
though he said he had no intention of buying an iphone.
There was yet another group ( Ted Gilchrist, Tom Hagen and Jack
Hodgson) that worked on some voice applications but they didn't demo
anything at the end of the day.
All and all it was a pretty good day. Many thanks to Brian, Jon,
Todd, Greg and the rest of the guys from Central [Square]
Intelligence. Their office space was pretty close to perfect for
DevHouse.
While at devhouseboston 2, I noticed there were some issues that seem
to be standard issues with collaborative working. Things like version
control, wiki, maybe even Gobby or some collaborative editor, ...
It'd probably be good to either:
1. bring a server to the devhouse fests with collaborative tools
(though this introduces other logistical issues)
2. add instructions to the wiki for installing and setting up their
own things (version control, wiki, mysql databases, ...)
3. add links to the devhouse boston wiki with existing systems out
there that can perform services for free (google code, sourceforge,
...)
I'm sure some folks are well-versed in these issues, but for the folks
who aren't, it'd be nice to have somewhere to point them to.
I'd be happy to volunteer for items 2 or 3. I have a lot of mildly
dead hardware, but not enough to put together a decent server with.

We will be holding the DevHouseBoston2 in Central Square, Cambridge on
Sunday June 24 from 10am until 10pm. Registration is now open. Go to
http://devboston.pbwiki.com for details. We have to limit
registrations to 30 people due to space constraints at the venue so
sign up early.
The 23rd/24th in Central sq. would be a strong option. Do you guys have
a preference as to which day? I would think a lot has to do with the
work habits/schedules of your "Co-Workers." You will also have to give
some consideration to securing your equipment and workspaces.

DevHouseBoston2 in the greater Kendall Sq. area. I'd like to have it
on the weekend of Sat. June 9th which is the weekend before father's

We can make it a 10am to 10pm event. The question I have is whether
this should be a Saturday or Sunday event? I get the feedback that
Sunday's are slightly easier on Geeks with Kids since Saturday's are
usually tied up with mandatory kid's sports things.

Good to hear. I feel like I haven't done much this time around,
especially since now I can't even help you guys setup and cleanup
afterwards (I still might try and stop by later in the evening). Sorry
about that.

I'll see what I can do. I haven't slept a normal night of sleep in a
week, since I cough all night and wake myself up. It's pretty not fun.
I've got some flyer ideas that I'll work through in Pages on my Mac
and I'll start trying out some t-shirt ideas (though I have no idea
where to begin with those).
Good luck guys. I'll check in tomorrow if I can't make it out that way.

I hope you feel better and can drop by. But if not, take it easy. If

Hi!
I'm writing to remind you that the first ever Dev House Boston happens
tomorrow. Starting at 11am, we'll all take part in a day of fun,
creative, and intense hacking. There are currently 38 people signed
up!
Directions, schedule, project ideas, and more good stuff:
http://devboston.pbwiki.com/
We organizers haven't been totally on the ball, so we may have to
collect money for dinner. We'll figure it out tomorrow. But if
anyone knows a last-minute sponsor who could chip in $200 or so, we
will gladly hand-draw a poster, express our eternal gratitude, put
comments in our code about how great you are, etc.
Nobody knows exactly how tomorrow will be, but I'm looking forward to
meeting and hacking with all of you. Should be a blast.
If you have any questions, contact me or the
devhouseboston@yahoogroups.com email list.
Shimon Rura, Brian Del Vecchio, John Resig, and Patrick Haney, organizers
P.S. Our wiki was disabled for a while today because it got flagged as
spam. It's back now.

Hey guys, sorry for the silence over here as of late. I've been sick
all week, missing the last 4 days of work thanks to a horrible sore
throat, never ending cough and a head cold.
I've been trying to rest in order to a) get back to work and b)
actually attend tomorrow, but I'm not sure that's going to happen.
If there's anything I can do remotely, please let me know. I'm going
to try and stop by tomorrow, but I can't guarantee that's going to happen.
My number, in case you need it, is (585) 503-9189.
PS. I blogged about the event today and will spread the news to other
people too, but it looks like we'll get a pretty decent turnout for
our first of hopefully many events.
Patrick
Who wants to send out a reminder tonight, to make sure that everyone
is on board for tomorrow? I'll be happy to do it - I just don't want 3
of us doing it accidentally ;-)
--John
John, Brian, Pat, Jeff,
(Jeff Keller is our contact at Permabit; he'll be with us from 10am
onwards tomorrow.)
Can we talk on the phone today to figure out last-minute stuff for
DevHouse? I can set up the conference call if you all send me your
phone numbers.
Would a 5pm call work? How about 6pm, 7pm, or 8pm?
Please respond with your phone number and a list of times you're
available. We urgently need to get our shit together. :)
shimon.
Thank you, Ramit. I was starting to get pretty nervous. :)
