Ferguson
asked to leave Sydney city pool
AAP November
30, 2009, 5:18 am
Convicted
pedophile Dennis Ferguson has been ordered to leave an inner Sydney swimming
pool, packed with children attending an open day.
A member of the public contacted the pool's management after spotting Mr
Ferguson going into the changeroom of the complex on Sunday, Network Seven
reported.
Hundreds of people, including many children, were attending an open day at the
pool at the time.
Police were contacted and officers approached Mr Ferguson, who completed a
14-year sentence for sexually assaulting three children aged six, seven and
eight in a Brisbane motel in 1987.
Network Seven said there was no suggestion by police or any member of the
public that Mr Ferguson was doing anything wrong when he was asked to leave.
The former prisoner last made headlines when his most recent place of
residence, in the Sydney suburb of Ryde, was revealed to neighbours, prompting
a public outcry that forced the NSW government to change laws in order to
relocate him.
He now lives at an undisclosed Sydney address.
Earlier this month, Mr Ferguson said he posed no threat to children in the
general community, but would consider chemical castration if it was deemed safe
and effective.
In an interview with the ABC, Mr Ferguson said people who were sexually
attracted to children, over time lost interest in them.

Japanese cops cross-dress to catch crims
AAP November 26, 2009, 12:17 am
Patrolling in high heels, wigs and designer bags, Japanese black-belt policemen
have been cross-dressing in a bid to beat off bag-snatchers, a report said on
Wednesday.
The all-male squad has been deployed since last month on night patrols in
central Aichi prefecture, wearing skirts and stockings and carrying eye-catching
handbags as bait for potential thieves, the Asahi daily reported.
So far the unit has failed to nab any muggers, the Asahi said, and Aichi police
declined to comment to Agence France-Presse on the report.
To qualify for the special squad, police have to be young, slim and hold the top
rank of a black belt in a martial art such as karate or judo, the report said.
A 26-year-old officer - measuring 1.71 metres in height and weighing in at a
dainty 61 kilograms - expressed pride in the mission, telling the daily: "It's
cowardly to target women who are weak."
The operation has not been without its pitfalls. Some of the stylish policemen
have become targets themselves - of cat-calls and lewd propositions.
One 25-year-old officer said he "panicked" one night when a male driver leaned
out of his car window and asked if he wanted to go for a drive.

Moi,
I was just talking to someone about this tonight. How many female 290's are
you seeing down your way? Up here in Sacramento we are starting to see the
list grow. I think people are sitting up and taking notice. It has
probably happened for years, but I think we as a society are more sensitive
to the male offender because of the messages that are circulated. We have
all seen the ads for a man in the trench coat, the shadowy figure that is
obviously male, and have been told not to accept candy from strangers, which
is then described using "he." In the past two years I have sat in on the
profile meetings of a few women who have committed offenses against minors.

MOSCOW
(Reuters) - Russian police have arrested three homeless people suspected of
eating a 25-year-old man they had butchered and selling other bits of the
corpse to a local kebab house.
Suspicions
were raised when dismembered parts of a human body were found near a bus
stop
in the outskirts of the Russian city of Perm, 1,150 km (720 miles) east of
Moscow.
Three homeless
men with previous criminal records have been arrested on suspicion of
setting
upon a foe with knives and a hammer before chopping up his corpse to eat,
local
investigators said in a statement on their www.susk.perm.ru Web site.
"After
carrying out the crime, the corpse was divided up: part was eaten and part

Men accused of murder, selling human fat
AAP November 20, 2009, 7:57 am
Four people have been arrested in Peru on suspicion of killing some 60 people to
sell their fat and other human tissue to Italian co-conspirators for cosmetic
use in Europe, authorities say.
The suspects were arrested in central Peru this month and a search is underway
for seven others - including two Italian citizens whose names were not revealed
- lead prosecutor Jorge Sans Quiroz told Agence France-Presse on Thursday.
The fat was purchased "to be commercialised in European (cosmetology)
laboratories," he said.
The prosecutor's indictment said the gang allegedly targeted farmers and
indigenous people on remote Andean roads, tricking them by offering jobs before
killing them.
One reported killing took place in mid-September to remove human tissue for
trafficking.
The trafficking network could be linked to 60 individual disappearances in the
central Andean region, although the ties could not be confirmed.
Police began arrests after discovering early this month a container with human
fat that was being shipped to Lima from the Andean city of Huanuco, some 400
kilometres northeast of Lima.
Signs of "an international network trafficking human fat" first surfaced about
two months ago, according to General Felix Burga, head of the police criminal
division.
Peruvian press cited him as saying the fat can be sold for $US15,000 ($A16,000)
per gallon (3.8 litres) in European countries.
The alleged plot revived the Andean legend of the "Pishtacos", white foreigners
who were said to suck the fat out of people travelling on lonely roads at night,
making fine soaps, lubricants, healing salves and beauty creams out of the
tissue.

Missouri
Girl Allegedly Killed `to Know What It Felt Like'
November 19, 2009
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Blessed with a Friday off
school, 15-year-old Alyssa Bustamante dug two holes in the ground to be used as
a grave, authorities said. For the next week, she attended classes, all the
while plotting the right time for a murder, they said.
That time arrived the evening of Oct. 21, when Bustamante strangled
9-year-old neighbor Elizabeth Olten without provocation, cut the girl's throat
and stabbed her, prosecutors said. Why?
"Ultimately, she stated she wanted to know what it felt like," Missouri State
Highway Patrol Sgt. David Rice testified Wednesday during a court hearing over
the slaying.
Rice, who interviewed Bustamante in the days after Elizabeth's
disappearance, said she confessed to investigators and led them to the fourth
grader's well-concealed body in a wooded area near their neighborhood in St.
Martins, a small town west of Jefferson
City.
A ColeCounty
judge ruled Wednesday that Bustamante, who has been held in Missouri's juvenile justice system, should
be tried as an adult. Hours later, the teen was indicted on adult charges of
first-degree murder and armed criminal action for allegedly using a knife to
kill Elizabeth.
A judge later entered a not guilty plea on Bustamante's behalf and referred her
to the public defender's office.
The court proceedings marked the first time that the suspect in Elizabeth's death had
been publicly identified since a two-day search for the girl by hundreds of
volunteers. When they found Elizabeth's
body Oct. 23, authorities only said that a 15-year-old had led them to it and
was in custody for the slaying.
Bustamante remained largely expressionless as she sat with her hands
shackled around her waist in court Wednesday. She occasionally looked down
beneath the brown bangs that covered her eyes and swallowed hard as a judge
read the charges against her.
On one side of the courtroom sat her mother and grandmother, who has been
Bustamante's legal guardian for about half of her life. On the other side sat Elizabeth's mother, relatives and friends, several of whom
wore pink — Elizabeth's
favorite color.
Bustamante was ordered held without bond pending her trial. If convicted of
first-degree murder, she would be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Witnesses at Bustamante's adult certification hearing described a girl who
was bright yet depressed and clever in a sometimes sneaky sort of way. She
ranked in roughly the top third of her class at Jefferson City High School, the principal
said, and had been in no trouble at school or with the law.
Yet Bustamante had tried to commit suicide at age 13 and had been receiving
mental health treatment for depression and cutting herself, said David Cook,
the chief juvenile officer in ColeCounty. Once, she led her
family to believe she was attending a local church event when she instead
sneaked off to a concert in St. Louis,
about two hours away, Cook said. On one or two other occasions, Bustamante
spent the night in the woods without permission, he said.
After her arrest, Bustamante tried to cut herself with her own fingernails
while being held in juvenile custody, said her appointed juvenile defense
attorney Kurt Valentine.
He argued Bustamante should remain in the juvenile system, where she could
potentially be rehabilitated before being set free by age 21. Valentine warned
that Bustamante would either kill herself or be assaulted and killed by others
if she were placed in an adult jail cell or prison.
"We are throwing away the child and we are signing a death sentence for
Alyssa," Valentine said. "She is not going to survive her time in the ColeCounty
jail."
Cole County Sheriff Greg White said later that Bustamante would be held at a
different, undisclosed location.
Cook recommended Bustamante be tied as an adult. Cole County Circuit Judge
Jon Beetem agreed, saying the killing was vicious and that the state had no
adequate facilities or services to treat Bustamante if she remained in the
juvenile system.
Bill Heberle, with the Missouri Division of Youth Services, testified that
the state has no secure facilities with fences for female juveniles. Youths in Missouri's juvenile
system generally are housed in group settings and are not typically watched by
staff 24 hours a day, he said.

Couple had online sex with son:
court
AAP November 17, 2009, 2:06 pm
A Sydney couple who allegedly
had sex with their nine-year-old son and posted the footage online are in
custody and have been banned from contacting the boy.
The 56-year-old man and his
48-year-old wife, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were arrested at their
Peakhurst home in the southern suburbs on Monday, where the offences are
alleged to have occurred since the start of this year.
The man is charged with two
counts of sexual intercourse with his son, as well as an act of aggravated
indecency, using a child for pornographic purposes, aggravated indecent
assault, and producing and disseminating child pornography.
Police facts tendered to
Sutherland Local Court, where the pair appeared on Tuesday, gave brief details
of the allegations.
The documents said the victim
was "a person under the care and control of the accused due to the fact
that he is his biological son".
Some of the sex acts were
streamed "live" online using a webcam, police allege.
The woman is also charged with
having sex with her son, inciting that act, inciting an act of indecency, and
knowing of the child's abuse "for months" and failing to inform
authorities.
The couple, represented by
solicitor Greg Melrose, did not apply for bail.
Magistrate Clare Farnan told
them both that they would be issued with orders preventing them from seeing
their son.
"It means I can't go near
him?" the father asked from the dock of the court.
The magistrate told the father
he was also banned from contacting the boy by phone or mail or any means other
than via a legal representative.
The same order was issued to
his wife.
Bail was formally refused and
the matters against both parents were adjourned until January 5 at Sydney's
Central Local Court.
The boy is now in the care of
the Department of Community Services.

'Sex' was cop's motive to access files
By Andrea Hayward, AAP November 17, 2009, 3:28 pm
A former detective was sexually motivated in using the West Australian police
computer system to access the details of more than a dozen women, a court has
been told.
John Lawrence Curran, 46, pleaded guilty to 16 counts of unlawfully using police
computers to access the details of 15 women when he appeared in Perth
Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Curran also pleaded guilty to two charges of unlawfully playing police video
records of interview to a girlfriend, who had badgered him to do so.
Curran accessed the details of women whose motor vehicle registrations he had
recorded in his personal diary, along with details about their appearances.
Corruption and Crime Commission lawyer Brett Tooker told the court the diary
notations included comments such as "huge bazookas", "blonde, skinny legs" and
"hooters plus".
Mr Tooker said Curran had also accessed the details of six women after seeing a
newspaper advertisement for sexual services.
"What he did, he did for his own sexual gratification," Mr Tooker said.
He said Curran had approached only two of the women whose details he had
accessed and one approach was a serious breach, with the then detective claiming
he was investigating a bag-snatching incident.
Curran's lawyer, Mark Andrews, said there was a sexual interest but it was no
more than a curiosity.
Mr Andrews said Curran, who had a 27-year career with the WA police, had already
paid a heavy price for his indiscretions.
He resigned as detective senior sergeant at the Warwick detectives office in
Perth's northern suburbs before details of the allegations were outlined, to
save the police force from embarrassment, he said.
Curran was "an emotional and psychological shipwreck" from November 2005 to
January 2008, when the offences occurred, Mr Andrews said.
"They (mental health issues) are undoubtedly what caused the offender ... to
become so psychologically vulnerable to make the errors of judgment ... that
have ultimately landed him in court today," he said.
Curran was later diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and faced a bleak
future, he said.
The father of three had suffered an acrimonious marriage breakdown years before
his offending and had been depressed and drinking heavily when he committed the
offences, Mr Andrews said.
"It's really quite remarkable he didn't hit a brick wall before this offending,"
he said.
A jail term would crush Curran and destroy any chance he had to rebuild his
life, Mr Andrews said.
Mr Tooker said a term of imprisonment was the only appropriate sentence for what
he described as an appalling breach of privacy and gross breaches of trust.
He said a message needed to be sent that this offending could not happen.
"General deterrence must loom large in this case," Mr Tooker said.
"Only an immediate term of imprisonment can be imposed."
Curran faces a maximum penalty of 12 months jail and a $5000 fine for each of
the charges of unlawfully accessing the police computer system.
Magistrate Doug Jones has reserved his decision until Wednesday

Man poses as father and son in

AAP November 16, 2009, 2:09 pm
A 55-year-old Taiwanese man
tricked up to 20 women into having sex with him in an elaborate scam where he
posed as both a handsome young man and that man's ailing father, a newspaper
says.
Hsu Shian-ming, who was
arrested on Saturday, allegedly posted photos of a youthful male model online,
claiming to be that person, and attracted numerous calls from women interested
in romantic liaisons, the China Post reported.
Hsu would then use the
telephone conversations to tell his victims he had a father whose medical
condition required constant sex to stay alive, sweet-talking them into doing
what was necessary to save him, it said.
The women would then meet up
with the "father", also Hsu, waiting for them at various hotels in
Taipei, according to the report.
One of his victims eventually
became suspicious after several attempts to see the handsome "son"
were unsuccessful, and after she uncovered the truth with the help of private
investigators, police became involved, the paper said.

Amber,
Does this case remind you of another in the area? Much could be learned
from this man in regards to the other. Especially about MO and he may even
have seen the Perth women go missing if he was out during that time period.
Is he a POI in the other case? The victimology is wrong in regards to
gender though.
A man posed as a taxi driver and lured as many as 100 drunk young men into
his car before filming his sexual assaults on them, a court has been told.
Kok Foo Lim, 42, of the Perth suburb of Tuart Hill, was one of Western
Australia's worst sexual offenders, prosecutors told the District Court in
Perth on Friday.
Lim, who was found guilty of 15 counts of sexual penetration without
consent, 11 counts of indecent assault and one count of unlawful wounding
after a trial ending in August, is to be sentenced next month.
Before the trial, he had pleaded guilty to 16 charges of unlawful and
indecent assault after it was revealed those attacks had been captured on
video.
The court was told between March 2003 and August 2007, Lim posed as an
off-duty taxi driver and offered at least 22 drunk young men lifts from
popular Perth nightspots.
He would wait until the men passed out before filming them naked, fondling
them and performing sex acts on them.
Most of the men would wake up outside their homes, dazed and with no
recollection of giving Lim their address or being assaulted.
Some suggested they had been drugged but the claims could not be proved
because of a lack of medical evidence.
Lim's crimes were only discovered in July 2007 after he repeatedly stabbed a
man he had picked up, who had questioned whether he was a cab driver.
Police uncovered videotapes Lim had thrown into his neighbour's yard, a
diary that chronicled the assaults and records of his victim's names and
addresses.
Prosecutor Janelle Scutt said in sentencing submissions Lim was a
"dangerous, prolific and persistent offender". "Lim may well be WA's worst
sexual offender with the number of victims and regularity," she said.
By Lim's admission there could be 100 victims during the offending period.
More than 60 victims could not be contacted by police. Many of the victims
were unaware of the crimes committed against them until contacted by police
and shown photos or videos of the offences.
Lim had dehumanised, humiliated and degraded his victims, Ms Scutt said. He
had only pleaded guilty to charges captured on film and it was difficult to
detect any genuine remorse, except for the fact his tapes were discovered,
which led to his downfall.
"Had he not made them, he would not have been detected," she said. Lim's
lawyer David McKenzie said his client's offending was not at the highest end
of the scale because he was not in a position of trust with his victims and
there was no violence.
He said Lim had been studying film and television at university and
maintained the filming of the sex acts was consensual and was for artistic
purposes. "There's no doubt Mr Lim finds the male form beautiful," Mr
McKenzie said. Mr McKenzie said Lim claimed he was working on a script. But
Ms Scutt said the script was a fantasy, featuring a taxi driver confused
about his sexuality searching for the meaning of life. "The script is
autobiographical and he is the taxi driver," she said.
Judge Troy Sweeney remanded Lim in custody until his sentencing on November
20.

i agree with this bryon, based on the fact that it was placed into the rectal
cavity. which is considered by many men ( and a few women im sure) to be a
sexually aroginist zone.
Others for thought. Some offenders have indicated that inserting objects
may have an exploratory element to it. However, this usually involves
objects being inserted into wounds.

all good insights. i'm wondering if russel would be nice to add a bit more of

Man admits 'House of Horrors' murders - November 9, 2009, 9:56 am
http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/6447795/man-admits-house-of-horrors-murders/
Christchurchman Jason Paul Somerville has admitted the murders of two women
whose bodies were found underneath his house, the address that has become known
as the House of Horrors.
The 33-year-old entered early guilty pleas at an unscheduled appearance before
Judge Graeme Noble in the Christchurch District Court today.
He admitted the murder of his wife, Rebecca Sara Somerville, on August 30 this
year, and the murder of Tisha Cecelia Lowry, a near neighbour who disappeared
almost a year earlier, in September 2008.
The women's bodies were found buried beneath the house.
A summary of facts show Somerville had sex with both his victims after he
strangled them to death. Somerville told police he killed his wife in September
after she refused his sexual advances.
Somerville's case was proceeding through the court process with a post-committal
conference planned for later this week.
Because he has not yet been committed for trial, the guilty plea was able to be
entered in the district court.
Judge Noble remanded Somerville in custody until November 27 for a pre-sentence
report.
The house has been the subject of repeated arson attacks since the discovery of
the women's bodies

Suspects Named
In Torso Deaths
INDIANAPOLIS. Ind.—Two
Cleveland policemen today
questioned a man who had
volunteered to Indiana state
police that he has the solution
lo the dozen Cleveland torso
murders allegedly committed
by the "mad butcher of
Kingsbury Run."
Chief of Detectives Ray
Hinkle of the Indiana police
said that the man named a
young Cleveland doctor and
the son of another Cleveland
doctor as the perpetrators of
the crimps.
'Authorities declined to reveal
the man's name pending
an investigation of his story
but said he is a resident of
Indianapolis and formerly lived
in Cleveland.

Latest Torso Murder Tip
Latest tip in the Cleveland torso murders comes from the
lips of Emil Fronek, right, Chicago longshoreman and former
hobo, who is shown telling Detective Emil.Musil how, he believss,
he escaped the "mad butcher" in Cleveland in 1934 after being
fed food that made him unconscious for three days. Fronek,
brought to Cleveland by detectives, told a fantastic tale of a physician
drugging him.

CHICAGO AN TELLS OF
POSSIBLE ESCAPE FROM
CLEVELAND TORSO KILLER
CLEVELAND, Aug. 25 — (AP)
— Police searched today for a
"doctor's office" in which a volunteer
told them he. was drugged
and barely escaped being a victim
of Cleveland's "torso slayer.'
The queerest story thus far in
the trail of 12 killings by a surgical
maniac, came from Emil Fronek,
Chicago waterfront workers, who
formerly frequented the district in
Cleveland where most of the butchered
bodies have been found.
Detective Peter Merylo brought
Fronek here and reported his story
as follows:
"The doctor invited me to come
in and ait down. He said he would
give me some shoes. He told me
first he would give me something
to eat. lie brought out meat and
potatoes and coffee.
"I was hungry but while I was
eating I got sick. All I could see
was the door. I Jumped up and
ran out.
"The doctor said 'wait a minute;
wait a minute. Let's have
some more to drink.' But I kept
going until I crawled in an empty
box car."
Fronek said he remembered
nothing until three days later
when he was aroused by transients
who thought he had been drunk.
"I went back to find the doctor,
to fix him but I couldn't find him,"
Fronek said.
Detectives took Fronek on a tour
of the probable location of the
office. He saw a church he remembered
and narrowed the search
down to a five-block area.
Detective Merylo said he was
confident Fronek was relating: an
honest account of his experience
but was not convinced of a connection
with the "torso slayer's"
death den which he has sought
vainly for three years. Safety Director
Eliot Ness expressed similar
views.
Fronek went back to his job
in Chicago today but offered to return
for further assistance in the
search.
He told of meeting another man
in a hobo camp here whose body
was scarred and who told of a
similar experience when he escaped
from a private hospital.
"He talked too crazy for me to
believe him," Fronek said. The
time of Fronek's experience he
thought was in 1931, a year before
the first of the torso victims was
found.

MURDERS ON "SUICIDE CLUB"*
CLEVELAND, - (ff) - Officials

J. Creel of Washington, a research

theory was advanced that the ten
murders in the Kingsbury run
series of torso slayings" in the past
two 'years were the work of a
suicide club"
The report was given to Coroner
S. R. Gerber, Safety Director
Eliot Ness, and Police Chief

"Pathological suicides are of
course quite common," Creel said
in his report, 'and so are pathological
types of killers. The combination
of the irresistible impulse
toward suicide and toward
killing is, however, of a much less
common occurrence. '
'When 'the combination does
occur, the"person then not only
desires to commit suicide, but he
also wants to kill someone else
at the same time, Creel pointed
out.
"The strange fact appears that
several of the victims of the torso
killer were not only a transient
or floating type, but further there
are certain reasons for believing
that they are of a distinctly suicide-
killer type besides," Creel declared.
Creel explained the theory that
if all the torso victims were of
the suicide-killer type, they formed
themselves into a club with
some sadistic person, whose personal
joy was killing, at their
head.
He suggested that the member
who was to die at a given time
was selected by lot and the one
selected then permitted himself to
be killed by his fellow club members.
Creel asked that his theory be '

Amber,
Does this case remind you of another in the area? Much could be learned
from this man in regards to the other. Especially about MO and he may even
have seen the Perth women go missing if he was out during that time period.
Is he a POI in the other case? The victimology is wrong in regards to
gender though.

Fake cabbie 'may have assaulted 100 men'
By Andrea Hayward, AAP October 16, 2009, 6:41 pm
20.

Insertion of objects can be done for many reasons. I can think of a few.
Signature - fulfills some psychological need for the offender
**to degrade the victim
**to own the victim
**to take credit for the crime
Staging - example - an attempt to make a domestic homicide look like a
sexual homicide by a stranger
Functional - examples include placing a sock in the mouth preventing
screaming, yet is not removed when the offender leaves the scene and
(possibly) placing a cloth material in the rectum may assist in preventing
body fluids from being excreted while transporting a body
Pure expression of rage toward a targeted victim (may overlap with

Amber,
I currently work with and have worked with other individuals in the past who
have been "chemically castrated." On more than one occasion the individual
expressed anger about the side effects and feeling forced into the
procedure, which as they put it, "makes me an angry pedophile/rapist." One
individual added, "I still have hands and a mouth." In an interesting case
an individual who was placed on anti-androgens responded at a significant
level on the PPG to scenes portraying force or non-consent when he did not
respond to these stimuli prior to, or after being removed from the agents.

French

Pascal
Rossignol, Reuters October 27, 2009, 3:17 am
DOUAI, France
(Reuters) - A Frenchman with multiple pedophilia convictions went on trial
on
Monday over the kidnap and rape of a 5-year-old boy, a case that has
prompted
some in government to consider castration for repeat sex offenders.
Francis
Evrard, 63, has spent half of his life behind bars for sexually abusing
children. In August 2007, just days after his release from prison, he
kidnapped
a boy in the northern town of Roubaix, locked him in a garage, drugged him
and
raped him.
"The time
has come for me to say that it's true, yes. I did it, but I can't explain
why.
I have impulses," Evrard told the court at the start of his trial in the
northern town of Douai.
The case
caused such outrage in French public opinion that the government rushed out
new
legislation in response in 2008 that allows authorities to keep criminals in
jail after the end of their term, if they are deemed to remain a threat to
society.
That was
criticized by lawyers and human rights activists who said it challenged
fundamental principles of justice, but Evrard is now being cited as a reason
for the government to take new measures against repeat sex offenders.
Evrard wrote
to President Nicolas Sarkozy this month asking for his testicles to be
surgically removed to free him from his pedophile impulses. Surgical
castration
is illegal in France and the president has not commented publicly on the
request.
Mustafa
Kocacurt, the father of his 5-year-old victim denounced Evrard's letter as a
stunt aimed at obtaining a more lenient sentence, pointing out that Evrard
had
made the request two years after his crime but days before his trial.
"The
justice system should do what it has to do and make sure that this man never
gets out of jail again. He has already caused too much pain," Kocacurt
told reporters at the court.
CHEMICAL
CASTRATION
France, along
with a number of other European countries including Sweden and Denmark,
already
allows "chemical castration" or the use of drugs to lower the sex
drive of offenders who agree to it. But
Evrard's letter and his trial, as well as a separate case in September in
which
a woman was abducted and strangled by a recently released rapist, have
prompted
senior ministers to advocate beefing up possible punishments against sex
offenders. Prime Minister Francois
Fillon said the government was considering forcing some of them to undergo
chemical castration, while Justice Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said the
option of physical castration should be debated, including in parliament.
Sarkozy, a former interior minister, rose to
power on his "tough on crime" credentials. He and his government have
been widely criticized for churning out ill-considered new laws as populist,
knee-jerk reactions to public outrage over crimes. Former Justice Minister
Robert Badinter, the
man behind the abolition of the death penalty in France, spoke out on Monday
against the drive toward new castration rules. "We don't mutilate human
beings ... in
our societies," Badinter said on Europe 1 radio, adding that it was not
for Evrard to decide his own fate. "He
will answer for his crime and I think that at his age, he's not going to
enjoy
freedom again anytime soon, if at all."
