Several introductory courses on digital photography have come to my
attention. If you or someone you love is over 50 and needs some help
with basic digital photography skills, this first description will
be of interest. The other course is for beginners of all ages and will be
offered at the Shaker Library.

If you find out about other courses that would be of interest to our members,
please let me know.

"Choosing and Using your Digital Camera" NOVEMBER 14, 2005

Computer Classes for People Age 50 & Better Taught by Peers

• What's the right digital camera for you? What's important?
From Megapixels to Memory Cards to JPEG Compression, the digital
camera vocabulary is strange, technical, and confusing. It really
doesn't have to be. We will walk you through the "geek-talk" and
translate what you need to know in order to choose, use and enjoy
your camera.

• Getting your digital camera to talk to your computer
Now that you've taken those great pictures and filled up your memory
card, how do you get the pictures into the computer? Once they are
in the computer, how do you find them? How do you get to look at
them, keep the ones you want and throw out the rest? Our hints on
file management, storage, and retrieval will prove invaluable.

• Having some fun with your pictures...
You will learn how to fix bad pictures and improve good ones, get
rid of red-eye, get rid of that bad background or get rid of the
couple you really didn't want in the picture. You will learn to
lighten dark pictures and darken light ones, have fun with special
effects, editing and adding text to personalize your pictures.

• What can you do with your final product?
We will discuss printing pictures at home or in your neighborhood
drug store, making a slide show of your pictures and a video of your
slide show, sending pictures by e-mail, posting pictures on a web
site, or using the web photo services to print and distribute your
priceless moments. Pictures are more fun when you can share them.
This class is similar to the very successful and well attended
course presented at CWRU "Summer at the Farm." At the Fairhill
Center Computer Learning Center each student will have hands-on
experience at an unshared, state of the art computer work station.
This will facilitate the partnership of you, your camera and your
computer.

Once-a-week classes will begin on Monday, November 14
Run for 4 weeks from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Call Fairhill Computer Learning Center
