- Define DITA's role in a mixed-format environment
- Establish best practices for integrating DITA in a mixed-format environment.
- Provide baseline processing architecture to enable DITA to participate in the two primary usecases:
- Get: DITA content needs data from non-DITA data sources ("DITA as primary architecture")
- Give: non-DITA data sources need DITA content ("DITA as documentation sub-module")
- Identify and recommend DITA architectural requirements to enable DITA participation in a mixed-format environment
The benefits of providing a DITA-recommended approach for mashups are:
- Interoperability: implementations of known features increase the likelihood of being interoperable with systems used by a user's customers, partners, and suppliers
- Productivity: users of the mashup strategy can pool their expertise to create a solution more effectively than working alone
- Tool support: it would be impossible for tool vendors to support undocumented usecases and requirements; the Mashup SC can provide a clear functional description for tool vendors to support
- Data-driven meaning: when a data model is used to establish relationships, the meaning resides in the content; otherwise, the meaning of your content is derived from processing
If you are interested in joining this SC, please email Seth Park (seth.park@...). We will hold an initial call next week (time TBD). After the interested parties are identified and an initial charter is drafted, the next steps will be:
Further develop the charter (offline activities)
- Identify leadership roles
- Petition the TC for the creation of the Mashup SC
