I have some great news!
Thanks to the CCD (Community College of Denver) we now
have a location for the remainder of this year, and
all of next year for the Denver Java User Group on the
Auraria Campus. We didn't have a place to meet for this
month (October) until today; but Sarah at CCD got us a
place in the King Center. The other great thing about
this venue is it is inexpensive (although they charge
a lot for non-sponsored events) so we should be able
to continue to have Gunther-Douglas sponsor our room,
and the pizza will still be Pete's Arena sponsored by
Amelia at TekSystems so the food and soda will continue
to be great tasting and on-time.
The plan is to still have a meeting next Wednesday,
but I don't have a speaker firmed up. I had some
people willing to help us out, but I also have a
request on the speaker Jay Zimmerman is flying in
for the November NFJS promotion at the Boulder
Java User Group.
I will update you when I have more information
this week.
I will also not be there, but I have Matthew
McCullough filling in for me to host the meeting.
Reminder: We will be giving away a ticket to the
NFJS Symposium, along with some books Bruce Snyder
donated that he co-authored, an IntelliJ IDE from
Jet Brains, two SourceBeat on-line books, a SoftPro
gift certificate toward a $40 book, and some great
books from SoftPro that K*FORCE is buying for us.
Finally, the person who was monitoring the JOBS
Board has retired. Wendy did a great job and we
need somebody to help out by approving jobs to
the DJUGJOBS Yahoo group that we have. It
doesn't take very long and what you have to do is
delete the spam requests that come in, reject any
jobs that aren't really Java related, and reject
any jobs outside of the Rocky Mountain Region
(unless they are work from home type jobs.)
Please e-mail me at either board at denverjug.org
or greg.ostravich at gmail dot com if you are
willing to do this and I'll get you set-up.
Thanks again Wendy for the great job you did!
Thanks again to Matt McCullough (co-chair of
the DOSUG) for filling in for me next week,
and thanks to Sarah at CCD for getting us a
venue through 2009.
Finally - thank you all for your patience.
I don't like when we don't have the meetings
announced at least a couple of weeks in advance,
but there was a problem with our room sponsor
before CCD and we didn't have a place to meet.
We should be in better shape from now on through
2009.
