*** MAIN PRESENTATION ***
"Seven Habits of Highly Effective Developers"
Ken Sipe
Descriptions:
Thoughts lead to words, words lead to action,
actions lead to habits. In this session we'll
sharpen the development saw in the process of
understanding what makes a hyper-productive
programmer. The focus will consist of developer
habits and development processes.
As described in the book "7 Habits for Highly
Effective People", there are habits which are
characteristic of highly effective people.
Clearly there are hyper-productive developers
which distinguish themselves from the
development pack? what is it that makes the
difference? What are the habits and practices
of highly effective developers?
This session will focus on individual developer
habits, as well as team practices and the
processes which result in high quality running
software.
Speaker:
Ken Sipe is a Technology Director with Perficient,
Inc. (PRFT), IBM's largest service partner, where
he leads multiple teams in the development of
solutions in the SOA, Web 2.0 and portal domains,
on both the Java and .Net platforms.
Ken was the founder of CodeMentor, where he was
the Chief Architect and Mentor, leading clients
in the execution of RUP and Agile methodologies
in the delivery of software solutions. He is a
former trainer for Rational in OOAD and RUP,
and a CORBA Visibroker trainer for Borland.
He continues to enjoy providing training and
mentoring in all aspects of software development.
Ken has a deep need to be highly diversified.
Ken often works with IT executives on high-level
strategic roadmaps, currently geared around
service oriented architectures (SOA). Ken also
likes to keep his hands "dirty" in the code,
which has him on a regular basis, pairing or
otherwise producing code. Ken is regularly
requested by clients that know him to "rescue"
projects, either through the streamlining of
processes or the rapid production of code.
Ken is a certified JBoss developer and is a
frequent participates on open source projects.
Ken is currently interested in the growing
maturity of SOA solutions in the open source
space, such as the ESB solutions like
ServiceMix and Mule, or rules engines such
as JBossRules.

"JMX and Spring: Manageability for Spring-based Applications"
Ken Sipe
Description:
The JMX support in Spring provides features to easily
and transparently integrate Spring applications into
a JMX infrastructure. Some of the tougher tasks of
JMX develop are made easy with Spring. We'll look at
automatic ObjectNames, automatic registration and
remote connector proxies as we review Spring's JMX
features.

We will be meeting at the King Center, which is just South
West of the Tivoli. The King Center is probably closest
to the Pepsi Center side of the campus.
The room we are in Rm. 312.
Here's a link to the Campus Map followed by the link to the PDF:

http://www.ahec.edu/parking/Campus%20Map%202005.pdf
Driving:
The closest parking is in the Tivoli Parking Structure.
The first time we were on-campus some of our
attendees were charged the same rate as the Pepsi Center
Events game parking. If you park in the garage, explain
that you are there for an on-campus event sponsored by
the Metro State Computer Science Department and CCD Life
and that you are to pay the same rate as students attending
other on-campus events.
Do not park in the NE lot - that is for students only.
If you are going to stay late (we often go to Old Chicago
nearby on Market Street after the meeting) you may want to
park in the uncovered parking lot just West of the Tivoli.
Light Rail:
You can take the Light Rail to either the Pepsi Center
or to the Colfax and Auraria Stop.
From the Pepsi Center Light Rail Stop:
Head South, cross Auraria Parkway at the Light.
The Tivoli (where we usually meet) is the first
building as you get to the campus. The next building
if you are heading South (Just South of the Parking Lot)
is the King Center.
From the Auraria Colfax Station:
Head NW on Main Street, past the Library and Media Center.
Turn Left before the PE/Event Center and head South West
toward the Street Lawrence Way which is in
front of the the King Center.
