COMUG is an organization of E-Learning professionals who are interested
in using and extending the use of the Moodle open source Course
Management System. COMUG currently meets bi-monthly, usually in the
North Denver Metro area to share ideas, problems, resources and
experience in developing E-Learning on the Moodle platform. We try to
keep the schedule consistent but it varies seasonally along with the
weather in Colorado.

Getting Started with Moodle
Moodle is an open-source Learning Management System (LMS) that has
become very popular tool for creating online dynamic virtual learning
environments. Moodle has features that rival and compete with the large
commercial applications but for significantly less investment.
Instructors and corporations can build a rich and collaborative learning
environment that may be used strictly for online learning or to augment
a blended instructor-led and online learning experience. This series of
presentations will take you through the installation process so that you
can explore Moodle on your own; demonstrate the out-of-the-box features
of Moodle and discuss some of the normal enhancement requests; and
finally show you the process to configure and perform basic
customizations on the Moodle application.

Session One: Platform and Installation
Bring your laptop and we will install the required system applications
and the Moodle LMS. Kris will walk you through the techncial
requirements for a Moodle installation and then work with you to install
the required operating platform and LMS on your own Windows laptop.

Session Two: Moodle Features
Moodle offers a very robust set of standard features. We will explore
the out-of-the-box functionality in this session.

Session Three: Configuration and Simple Customization
Kris will show you how to find and install third-party add-ons for
Moodle, modify the configuration, and make simple customization changes.


About the Presenter:
Kris Pilgrim is President of Soft Lightning Inc, a comprehensive
e-learning solutions provider that offers a full range of services
including instructional design; online course design and development;
and LMS integration, hosting and customization. Kris has over 20 years
experience in a multitude of technologies and applications and has
served as engineer, director, CTO and CEO at companies that include TRW
Space & Defense, Control Systems International, ICG Communications,
General Dynamics, Quark and Breakthrough Management Group. Kris holds a
BSEE from the University of Kansas, and an MSEE and MBA from the
University of Colorado.
